In its attempt to help hype Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams' forthcoming reboot of the Star Trek film franchise, Paramount Pictures has apparently revealed a secret game project. Fan site Trekmovie.com has posted a scan of a flyer that its editors found tucked inside the Blu-ray set of Season 1 of the original Star Trek series.

The scan appears to be for a game titled Star Trek: DAC developed by Naked Sky Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based studio behind the decently received sci-fi action game RoboBlitz, released on Xbox Live and the PC in 2006. With its depiction of the new Enterprise from the film in a space battle with several Romulan vessels, the game appears to be a space combat title, perhaps similar to the Battlestar Galactica tie-in from late 2007.

Star Trek: DAC's release date is listed as May, no doubt to coincide with its film inspiration's May 8 premiere. However, the game may be less exciting that it appears. Its publisher is listed as being Paramount Pictures Games, which has released only iPhone movie tie-in games for films such as School of Rock and Shooter, according to its Web site. Attempts to elicit comment from Paramount about the game were unsuccessful as of press time.

I think some of you people have missed the whole point of Gene Roddenberrys vision of Star Trek. It wasn't about killer special FX, or even great performances by the various Actors that have played our favorite characters. its about the bright future of Humanity, that has learned how to work together to end war and disease. to reach out and explore. most times with an Olive branch, sometimes with a sword. I think the Ideals of Star Trek are more important then the "cannon" of Star Trek

Another game based on a movie, rushed to production, can't be good news. And if it's all just 'space battles' ya can forget it. If they side on an Elite Force format... it might be worth picking up.

I will watch this movie on opening day...MAY 8th of 2009. HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

I hope the movie is good. I have no such delusions about a hastily cobbled together game tie-in.

Movies gona blow, games gona blow. If they were really smart they'd set a movie a few decades after Nemesis, worked with TNG.

God, we need another quality ST game like Bridge Commander or Elite Force.Maybe if the movie is a success we will get another one.

Sadly, this will probably end up being pretty awful.

I love how everybody seems to know a movie will suck even before it is released. I must learn this secret.............

I have little hope for this movie. It looks like an action movie for teenagers with a Star Trek theme. Maybe it'll be good for people who aren't trekkies, but I'm expecting more of slap in the face to the people who are. Needless to say, I have even less hope for this game.

Frankly, with Orci and Kurtzman destroying what little dignity the franchise had left with this optmistically phrased "reboot" movie in which every character speaks their thoughts aloud the instant they have them, a tie-in game was to be expected.

I'm just more pumped for the movie now! hey...wait a minute...is this their plan?

star trek game, the concept is just wrong, i will be very surprised is this actually become worthy of the title "game", not just "mess"

I'm more surprised when movies don't get a game counterpart these days... I thank whatever deity might be watching every day that there wasn't a Dark Knight movie tie-in game.

Double post=Fail... sorry! Also, the fact that it should be out in less than 3 months, and this is the first whisper we've heard about it does not bode well.

I want a good good Star Trek game so badly... so, so badly. Unfortunately, I don't see a movie tie in being that game. For a Star Trek game to work, it needs it's own original plot, developed by actual Star Trek writers (not effing JJ Abrams), and an investigation of some sorts. Star Trek has never been an action show, and almost all the games seem to be action based. I know it's too early to tell for sure, but if this isn't just a generic space-ship shooter, I'll be shocked. I'm a long-time Star Trek fan, and I don't have high hopes for the movie, much less this game.

can you smell that? it's the tripe that my grandmother left on the stove too long. Nevermind, that's the stink wafting into my nostrils from Star Trek: DAC. My bad.

Star Trek game? Check. Movie Tie-in? Check. That game is going to suck, Number One. Engage! Seriously... have we ever had a good Star Trek game? And even if we get around that particular mountain... have we ever had a good movie tie-in game?

Movie tie-ins generally fail. I'm not too sure about the movie, either.

GOD DAMNIT!!! And to think I was forward for to a summer movie-game tie-in, that was never going to be made. Let's hope the "Wolverine" game is good.

Paramount Pictures Games is publishing the game not developing it which means Naked Sky is possibly developing it for the 360 or PC.

Good game or good movie. It can't be both. While i want their to be a good Star Trek game, if it's being based on a movie it just won't be good...

I'm tempted to pretend both the game and especially the movie don't exist. *runs and watches The Voyage Home*

RoboBliz was a great little game with a superb physics engine. I believe in Naked Sky Entertainment, I think they will deliver a good game.

Seriously, Star Trek has a good video game record. Konami made an NES adventure game, and Spectrum Holobyte made a bunch in the '90s for the 16-bit consoles that took the whole Trek idea seriously. Interplay had Starfleet Academy, and there were a handful of Doom clones on DOS and Windows 95, plus the 40-year-old EGA Trek (a more recent name) that was on every mainframe and computer for a good thirty years. I'm sure you all can find a download of EGA Trek if you wanted to, though I don't. It's old. Good, but old.

I like Star Trek and I hope the reboot is worth it especially for the die hard Star Trek fans. I still think Star Trek: Generations movie (where Kirk and Picard get together) was the best!

That battlestar game sucked. A game like Generations (I know its old) but with the current generation could work wonders. if this is a third person space flyer game im not gonna pay for it. Cant wait for the movie!!

Let see I am hopeful about this game being good but given the previous records of majority of videogames based on movies tend to suck a lot I have very low expectations for this. ( Hope I am wrong)

I love star trek, but most of the games based on the license have been unforgivably bad. Truly, even the most dedicated Trekkie has to approach this with at least GUARDED enthusiasm...

DangerClown

Not holding my breath where quality will be concerned. This game will be lucky to earn a 7 on a site that doles out 9s like they're going out of style.

FidelSarcastro

Huh... lets deconstruct this a little, we have Star Trek which with few exceptions has not translated into good games, then we have movie tie ins which also has a reputation in being stinkers when it comes to game and finally the development team is an almost unknown company... chances are its gonna be a so-so game, 4.5 - 6.0 game and it will probably only sell because of the hype from the movie and gamers will be left with the same feeling that gamers had after playing the movie tie-in games for Iron Man and The Hulk for PC. But who knows, maybe this game will against the odds be a good game. As a trekkie from back in the day I can hope but it really is a matter of hoping for the best while preparing for the worst. Time will tell.

Iam all hyped on startrek online right now, and ofcourse the movie. But mostly the game, so far the pre-release info & screens seem to promise a game full of content, variety and lot's of customization. I realy hope cryptic delivers, wish 'em luck

Well I'm hoping it's good, but more than likely it's just going to be just another cheap cash in.

Mr. Brightside In response, Bethesda sold the license to Cryptic...... Which also answers your second question.....Star Trek Online is a MMORPG. Look for it sometime in 2010. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the license covers PC and console games, but not games for phones, flash games, web games, etc,. Which is why paramount can still have someone else create star trek games.....so long as they are not PC or console.
