Jimmie Johnson fronts Anything With an Engine

Five-time NASCAR champ gets his own kart-style racer for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii next year, Vigilante 8 XBLA studio Isopod Labs tapped as developer.

Mario has often been acknowledged as the king of the kart racing genre, but there's a new challenger to the throne with no shortage of street cred. Publisher Autumn Games today announced Jimmie Johnson's Anything With an Engine, a kart-style combat racer set for release on the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 next year.

Anything With an Engine. And Jimmie means anything.

A five-time Sprint Cup Series champion, Jimmie Johnson holds the notion of racing "anything with an engine" as a personal motto. In keeping with that, Anything With an Engine will feature a variety of unorthodox, impromptu vehicles, including dumpsters, bathtubs, lawnmowers, and go-karts. The game will feature split-screen multiplayer, elimination-style circuits, and tracks packed with various traps and jumps.

Anything With an Engine is being developed by Isopod Labs, which has a reputation of its own for racing. The studio's only game to date has been the downloadable Xbox 360 car combat game Vigilante 8: Arcade, but the studio was founded by veterans of True Crime and original Vigilante 8 developer Luxoflux. As for Autumn, the upstart publisher was founded in 2007 and recently teamed with 4mm Games, Konami, and Terminal Reality to create the multiplatform Def Jam Rapstar.

We all know its gonna be rubbish already just by the description - if they're hoping to charge fullprice for this instead of a budget downloadable they are kidding themselves. Pick any gamer over 2 yrs old and ask them to design a game instead and its bound to outsell this :)

Split screen multiplayer? Good. Hate it when a game has great multiplayer that I can't play with friends (i.e. online only). Hope this turns out good.

I'll buy it, but only if I can choose Cartman as my driver in the Vagisil car, with Butters on the radio giving me advice from my pit-crew

I've noticed a trend this generation. If a game is based on a license, and is for PS3, 360, AND WII, it's usually crap.

I hate Jimmie Johnson. I'll pass on this, go get NASCAR 11: The Game and enjoy punting the 48 car into the wall over and over again.

I'm a big NASCAR fan, but NASCAR drivers need to keep their names on NASCAR products and leave the kart racers to someone who knows how to make them, like Mario Kart.Aside from Colin McRae's awesome stuff, I can't think of any game with a drivers name on it that was any good. Remember Jarrett & Labonte's Ford Racing on PS1? Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing on SNES? About the last thing with a NASCAR racers name on it that was even decent was Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge for the NES, but that was 20 freakin years ago!

Jimmie Johnson rules. Not only did he win the championship 5 times, but he did it 5 years in a row. Not sure that any of this has anything to do with the game, but as long as it's fun, who cares?

Lame... I stopped watching NASCAR after maybe the second time he won. Plus screwing with the points system in the last 10 races is stupid. So yeah anywas I think I'll be sticking to real racing games.

in my opinion, he is one of the reason's why auto racing's popularity has steadily gone down. It's boring when the same person win's 80% of the time. it wouldnt be so bad if he had some personality but he's so plane and boring it hurts.

All he cares about is the cheque they gave him... And who can blame him, he's a big name in the racing business and he got the opportunity to earns some more dollars from it and who would say no?
