Jet-X Races Ahead

LONDON - Former Wipeout team gets set to unleash first air-racing combat title.

LONDON - Curlymonsters, the amusingly named developer of Infogrames' upcoming airplane-racer Jet-X, is well into development and showing early demos of this promising title.

Curlymonsters, made up of former members of Psygnosis' Wipeout/Colony Wars team, has constructed a fast-moving, graphically gorgeous combat racer with spot-on control. Moving at 30fps (or better) with excellent light-sourcing and lushly constructed racing-environments, Jet-X also features a wide variety of aircraft.

With more than 30 planes to choose from, and even more hidden, you can either race in the arcade mode or in the considerably deeper campaign mode, which lets you upgrade your ship with credits won from victorious races. Imagine a cross between Wipeout and Namco's Ace Combat series, and you've got a good idea of what Jet-X is all about.

Due to ship in March 2000, Jet-X is probably Curlymonster's last PlayStation game before it gets started on the PlayStation 2.
