Jet Set Radio HD remake grinds onto Android, iOS

Summer's re-release of Dreamcast skate-and-paint game will include full content, camera-enabled graffiti.

Jet Set Radio's lighthearted cartoon vandals are on their way to mobile phones and tablets, Sega announced today. The downloadable HD remake of the game--already headed to PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360 this summer--will also appear on Android and iOS devices.

This game will get you some funny looks on the bus.

The mobile versions will include the same regions to skate and adorn with spraypaint as their console cousins, including the full soundtrack, and will integrate mobile leaderboard support with OpenFeint. Gamers will also be able to upload photos from their devices' cameras into the game for use as personalized graffiti. No mention was made of the price for any of the game's versions.

The original Jet Set Radio for Dreamcast, which was released in 2000 as Jet Grind Radio in North America, was hailed by GameSpot for its unique visual design and balanced gameplay upon its release in 2000.

Pretty awesome. I still would love an actual sequel though.

You would think they would jump on it to make one considering how popular the others games were.

"Gamers will also be able to upload photos from their devices' cameras into the game for use as personalized graffiti."

If said graffiti is traced back to mobile gamers, however, both Verizon and Sprint have announced their intentions to prosecute the offenders to the fullest extent of the law.

JSRF was just so damn good. I cannot put it into words. If you haven't played it, wait for the HD remake and do so. Dat Tokyo, dat music, dat everything.

@Bigbomb94 Could the 3DS run a Dreamcast game?

The media hypes these HD returns like Max Payne and THPS sky-high, only to give those same games a poor, undewhelming review. Really, what's the point?

it was one of the (if not "THE") first game to use cel shading in its graphics engine, hence another trend sega started.

Hopefully it'll support bluetooth controllers, JGR already had sort of stiff controls on the Dreamcast. I mean, the game played well after you got used to the "stiffness", but I can't imagine such controls making a smooth transition to touch-based controls...

@NuclearPig  @Bigbomb94 I think there was Crazy Taxi, Power Stone and other DC ports for PSP, and if the 3DS has more power than the PSP, then yes, the 3DS should be able to run JSR with little trouble :).

@KimCheeWarriorX cel shaded games had been out years and years before the year 2000.

there were games that tried to mimic a cel shaded/cartoony look prior to jsr but jsr was the first game that was officially recognized as using cel shading properly. it was the first time a reviewer (it mightve been egm) that mentioned that jsr looked like one of those levi's commercials (most of which used cel shading at the time). look it up yourself if you dont believe me, i stand by my comment.
