Hot off its IPO, Jamdat Mobile buys the maker of the Downtown series of casino games.

Wireless publishing giant Jamdat Mobile today announced its acquisition of Downtown Wireless, the developer of several casino titles. Its most popular game, Downtown Texas Hold 'em, was second only to Tetris, according to Verizon's October 26, 2004, Get It Now rankings.

The move is being billed as a strategic expansion into the casual gaming space, and "is consistent with Jamdat's strategy to build value from a slate of owned intellectual properties," stated Jamdat CEO Mitch Lasky in a statement. Downtown Wireless cofounder Ruben Sandoval also expressed his enthusiasm regarding the buyout, commenting that "this [acquisition] immediately expands our distribution in the US and around the world."

Jamdat's recent IPO (NASDAQ: JMDT) has generated a great deal of revenue for the company, and expansions such as this are likely products of that growth. Jamdat's most successful titles to date include its Jamdat Bowling series and its Lemonade Tycoon games.
