It's too early to talk about Just Cause 3, Avalanche Studios cofounder and creative director Christofer Sundberg told Eurogamer in a new interview published today.

"We have been discussing what we'd like to do with the Just Cause IP in the future, but it's too early to talk about it just yet," Sundberg said.

His comments come during the same week that Avalanche Studios published a video detailing a recent trip the company took the Costa Rican rainforest to collect reference materials for its upcoming open-world games, which some suggested would include the rumored Just Cause 3.

Avalanche is currently working on the single-player-only Mad Max game to be published by Warner Bros. The studio is also working on a new IP for mobile/tablet, as well as an unannounced game in development at its New York City office to be published by Square Enix

Also in the interview, Sundberg said the upcoming fan-created multiplayer mod for Just Cause 2 has Avalanche's blessing. "They are a super-talented group of game developers that I'd love to work closer with them in the future," he said.

He also reiterated that Avalanche considered creating an official multiplayer mode for the 2010 action game, but it simply did not work out.

"Of course we did," Sundberg said. "But for budget and timing reasons those plans fell through. Personally, I've never been of the opinion that Rico as a character was well suited for multiplayer, but the world certainly is."
