Particle Systems has released the first software development kit (SDK) for its recent space combat sim game, Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos. The kit includes the tools necessary to convert Lightwave objects and textures into the game's format, as well as information on how to set up ships and weapons in the game. The developer has also released uncompressed versions of the game's ship textures that players can edit using standard paint programs. The SDK can be downloaded from the official Independence War 2 Web site.

Independence War 2 was released in August by Infogrames. The game is set in the far reaches of space in the distant future. Players assume the role of Cal Johnston, a pilot who has escaped from a maximum-security prison in order to avenge his father's death. Along the way, Johnston and his fellow escapees will be drawn into the midst of events that start the second Independence War. For more information, take a look at our full review of the game.
