Impressive “Super Smash Bros. Source” Video Imagines a Valve Fighting Game

Who would win in a fight, Gordon Freeman or the Heavy?

by

What if Valve made a fighting game featuring a cast of characters from Left 4 Dead, Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, and Portal?

It’s probably never going to happen (unless they all start appearing as playable Heroes in Dota 2), but one talented animator created a video that imagines what the opening movie for that game might look like.

YouTube user Crazyhalo (via Polygon) explains that “Super Smash Bros. Source” is set to the style and tune of Super Smash Bros. Melee’s opening movie, with elements from both Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the first Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. Check out the comparison video below to see just how faithful and creative his recreation is.

So, who do you think would win in a fight? Gordon Freeman or the Heavy? Chell or the G-Man? The Boomer or Wheatley? Tell us in the comments below.

This actually seems very, very boring.

Aside from the portal girl which would be really interesting, everyone else would be really lame as all of them uses guns, there would be no diversity so it would suck.

Valve would have to outsource the development duties to someone that can actually pull it off and do the game any justice. I don't believe that Valve is versatile enough to make this type of game.

Super Source Bros. sounds more appropriate in my opinion.

"Shut up and take my money"

That was probably what I would say if it really happened .

Take my money! Take it now!

If only. I like mash-ups like that. The appeal for Smash for me was more that than the game itself. Dunno why, but that's what clicked.

Why does everyone have to fight everyone else in everything?  Geez!  Makes no sense. :)

the video needs more counter strike characters such as the guerrilla terrorist or the SAS or GIGN counter terrorists.

The bloodcyka would need some major nerfs for this game.

It's fitting because Valve is the one company that's slower than Nintendo at releasing games.

@catsimboy They're also the only company with IPs that have genuinely unique characters too.

@catsimboy There aren't many companies that release MORE games than Nintendo does, so I don't know where that statement comes from.  Nintendo had a developer's hand in releasing 8 games in 2013 across the 3DS and the Wii U.  If you want to talk about how many games were published by Nintendo in 2013, you're looking at 29 (I did not count both versions of Pokemon X/Y).  The only thing Valve put out in 2013 is Dota 2.

Now, what you define as a game is going to alter those numbers somewhat... but if you're looking at raw software releases, there you go.

@Jebril @catsimboy They stole all the Fortress characters from the Quake modding community, so those aren't technically unique IPs. I'm pretty sure they didn't steal the others though. Still, StarCraft easily has more characters by itself. Sega or Capcom could probably easily outdo them as well. Maybe you are thinking specifically in terms of FPS games though, in which case I imagine GoldenEye or the MGS series still have more.

@jinzo9988 @catsimboy Please Understand, I was making a joke about how it took Nintendo way too long to get some good system sellers out on the Wii U thus squandering their headstart on the PS4/Xbox One. Sure Nintendo is nowhere near as slow as Valve is but Valve isn't trying to keep a drowning console afloat.
