House, M.D. makes an appointment with PC, DS

Adventure-puzzle game to arrive on computers in February, with a version for Nintendo's handheld following in April.

by

Legacy Interactive has a history of making mystery-solving adventure games based on hit TV shows, having created adaptations of Murder She Wrote, C.S.I.: NY, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Early next year, the publisher will take a stab at a different kind of mystery series, as it plans to launch a game based on Fox's top-rated medical drama, House, M.D.

Would you trust this man to conduct a prostate exam?

The House, M.D. game will let fans of the show step into the sneakers of the gruff diagnostician, played by British actor Hugh Laurie. Players will help solve five different medical mysteries with more than 100 puzzles and minigames. As on TV, House will have help from his supporting team of doctors, as well as his favored colleague/enabler Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) and hospital administrator Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). It is unclear if the actors will lend their voices to the game, but early images show at least their likenesses will appear in it.

House, M.D. will arrive on the PC and Macintosh in February, with a DS edition trailing in April. For more on House, M.D., visit its series page on GameSpot sister site TV.com.

P.S. @Serraph105 : I'm looking forward to seeing this game banned in Australia because one of the mini-games is about taking Vicodine! :D

I agree with Cybercatter - ROFL! What the hull? I love House but until we know more about the gameplay I'm gonna assume this is an insane cash in before the show dies :D. I enjoyed Scootman78's over-amped response to Cybercatter, almost as much as I enjoyed his in-depth analysis of the games industry. ;)

To: cybrcatter Posted Feb 1, 2010 7:01 pm GMT Not sure what you're laughing about. TV shows have been making appearances on PCs for years (Law & Order, CSI, Lost, Survivor, Star Trek, etc.). They haven't all been great, but some have turned out quite good. If you're a fan of House and patient enough to play adventure/puzzle games (which many on this board aren't given their negative comments), then you have no reason not to give this game a shot. Adventure gaming is one of the oldest genres, if not the oldest, in PC gaming. There's been plenty of awful games for developers to learn from. Some developers still make mistakes by not trying enough (i.e. like the developer that just wanted to make a profit because they made a CSI game - even though the interface was clunky and it was only compatible with certain versions of Windows). Given the screenshots, it looks like the developers were at least taking this game seriously. I'll wait to see a few reviews, but I'm not as picky as others when it comes to these type of games (again, because others who seem the most critical are new to the genre and don't like having to figure out puzzles and solve cases).

Oh god! And I thought other games couldn't get worse

oh just thought of a minigame: Step 1. Remove lid Step 2. Remove Vicodine. Step 3 Insert Vicodine into mouth. and another game called Forge Prescription. Another one could be instructing a guy on how to properly kill himself so as not to damage his heart so you can use it in a transplant.

Huge fan of the show. I doubt I'll give the game a chance. I NEVER play TV-Video games..they just never have the appeal to make me a player.

Onelegas: "and for any who know something about Hugh Laurie i wonder went/if Steven Fry will make a cameo or guest star as a patient" I've been following Laurie & Fry since the early 80's, if Fry showed up as a patient named Lord Snot, it would be freaking epic!

House could be made into a great game if handled properly. So could almost any other show or movie, yet for some reason it seems only idiots are hired to create them.

there are some shows on the universe that should never be translated into game this show is one of them. This coming from a HOUSE fan. Whats next a video game about Jon and kate Plus 8 ?

i'll laugh if its just a 3d version of operation where you have to pull out various items from a patient without making his nose light up and buzz!

NOooooooooo. I love House, but there's just NO way this is gonna work or be good :(..

gwailo2470

I see a good stealth element to it. House has to evade patrolling "guards" (orderlies) and sneak past the "boss" (pharmacist), to recover the "package" (Vicodin).

I love House I've got every season on DVD he makes medical dramas interesting. However games like this tend to be decent at best total crap at worst. The CSI games are playable but once you're done thats it. You can't trade in PC games anymore so your stuck with a game you liked but don't feel like playing anymore. Still I hope it's decent enough to buy as long as it's $30. If they ask more that's a ripoff......unless thirtenn has a threesome with Cuddy,Cameron amd Wilson's new Nurse. That will be worth playing multiple times.

To make it more interesting, they oughta get the guys who made 'Trauma Center' to make this game... oh crappers.

Every puzzle will go like this. It's auto imune, no its chrones disease. Run a CT scan and do a lumbar puncture. Patient codes, crash cart, you spin a ball, Wilson walks in and sneezes and that makes you realize she has a common cold but since the patient has been on diet pills it manifested into "almost lost this one" syndrome.

Maybe really good dialogue like in the show can save this one from mediocrity.

I never thought I'd see the day... Well, I do like adventure/puzzle games, but this is a licensed game, so I have to put on my great, big skeptic hat. Probably going to suck, but I'll hold out hope for something decent.

@razorfett147 In the latest episode of House you can see him playing a PSP Go near the beginning of the episode.

They could add a bit of Splinter Cell action with an escape from the mental institution level. To have any chance this has to have authentic voice actors. The thought of having someone stand in for Laurie or Leonard is horrifying.
