A new trailer for Homeworld 3, the latest in the acclaimed strategy franchise, debuted during Opening Night Live at Gamescom, highlighting how much flexibility you'll have when executing a masterful plan.

The gameplay footage, which swapped between the traditional strategic view and a more cinematic, swooping camera angle, walked through an attack on a fleet with a smart flanking maneuver and adept preparation that was able to deal with unforeseen difficulties. It certainly speeds up the pace, but it makes for a captivating dissection of a small skirmish in a larger battle.

Now Playing: Homeworld 3 | Gamescom ONL 2022

Like previous entries in the series, Homeworld 3 will focus heavily on a realistic ballistics system for its strategic gameplay, which can be heavily impacted by where battles play out in space. As the trailer showcases, combat isn't always your only option, with the importance of sight lines and how you exploit them giving you a competitive advantage in some scenarios.

Homeworld 3 was originally revealed as part of a crowdfunding campaign on Fig, spearheaded by Gearbox Publishing. When Embracer Group acquired Gearbox in 2021, the crowdfunding portion ceased, but the project continued development. Although originally scheduled for 2022, Homeworld 3 is now set to launch in the first half of 2023.
