Disney wants to give Rogue One some breathing room.

The newest Star Wars movie, Rogue One, has been in theaters for less than a week, but fans are clearly interested in what's coming next for the mainline series. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased in a recent interview that fans can expect to "see things" about Episode VIII in Spring 2017.

"We're giving [Rogue One] a little bit of breathing room," she said at the film's premiere this month, as reported by MoviePilot. "And then probably heading into spring, you'll start to see things [about Episode VIII."

It remains to be seen what these "things" could be, but official images or a trailer seem to be likely candidates.

The Spring 2017 timing is interesting, given that aligns with April 2017's Star Wars Celebration event in Orlando, Florida. In an interview with Empire, Rey actress Daisy Ridley also referenced that event.

"I know there's Celebration next year. Hopefully something will be shown there? That's speculation, by the way..." she said.

Ridley also teased in the Empire interview what she's seen of Episode VIII so far.

"I watched a sizzle reel. I went to go see Rian in the [editing room], and that was very...[makes excited noise] Rian sounds very happy. It's very, very exciting," she said. "Rian doesn't love showing stuff."

Following a delay, Episode VIII arrives in theaters on December 15, 2017. It also stars Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Domhnall Gleeson, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

At Star Wars Celebration this year, director Rian Johnson talked about how Episode VIII is the film where "we start zooming in on the characters and getting to the heart of them, challenging them, and pushing them deeper."

This matches up with what Poe Dameron actor Oscar Isaac said in May. "In the new film, there's a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested. All three of them get tested immensely," he explained at the time, adding the film is "dark," but "not really dark."

Stars Ridley and John Boyega have also spoken about the film's darker tone. "It's a different take--darker, bigger," Boyega told Variety. "Someone will say: 'How do you get bigger than Force Awakens?' But it's crazy."
