SegaSoft Networks is hoping to extend the reach of Heat Collegiate Internet Gaming League, its attempt to bring the online gaming network to college campuses. SegaSoft announced the launch of the HEATCIGL in September, and today, the company announced two strategic marketing alliances that it hopes will help it achieve its goals.

Heat.net has signed on as the gaming sponsor of GeoCities @Campus game, which it calls "an interactive college-themed e-mail trivia game designed specifically for students." The game, running through Dec. 7, features ten weekly tests of "subjects related to typical college courses and activities." Students are directed to sponsor sites and to the GeoCities @Campus page to find their answers. The grand prize is a spring break vacation package. SegaSoft will be throwing in some of its products as weekly prizes. Heat.net and the HEATCIGL will be featured on banner ads on the GeoCities @Campus site.

SegaSoft has also formed a strategic partnership with COGA (College Online Gaming Association). COGA will become a charter member of HEATCIGL, and schools and students now served by COGA will automatically become members of HEATCIGL. "COGA has been building a grassroots connection to the college gaming community for the last year," said Matt Callaway, community manager of HEAT.NET and HEATCIGL. "The combination of their experience and knowledge of the collegiate gamer provides a great foundation for HEATCIGL to expand, and their support should help produce an inaugural season to remember."
