Hasbro To Buy Game.com Maker
Tiger Electronics - the maker of Laser Tag and the Giga Pet - will be acquired by toy-maker Hasbro.
The two companies announced an agreement that will see Hasbro take over the operating assets of Vernon Hills, Illinois-based Tiger and its affiliates.
Hasbro will pay approximately $335 million for the company, "subject to certain closing adjustments, plus the value at closing of inventory, tooling, equipment, and certain prepaid assets," Hasbro said in a statement. The Hart Scott Rodino Anti-Trust Improvement Act waiting period that the companies had to abide by has expired, Hasbro and Tiger said. Expectations are that the handover should be completed early in the second quarter.
Alan G. Hassenfeld, chairman and chief executive officer of Hasbro Inc., said of the deal, "Tiger brings Hasbro a rich portfolio of brands and expertise in an area that has great growth potential for us, particularly as electronic entertainment technologies converge."
Tiger was founded in 1979 by Randy Rissman, its current president and CEO, and Roger Shiffman, the company's senior executive vice president. The two will continue to operate the company after the acquisition by Hasbro.
Hasbro already owns the Playskool, Kenner, Tonka, OddzOn, SuperSoaker, Milton Bradley, and Parker Brothers brands.
