Golden Sun happens to be one of the first RPG titles on the Game Boy Advance, and although it is only 30 percent complete, the game looks promising. The game is being developed by Camelot, and it was originally planned for a Nintendo 64 release. The story begins when someone unleashes the powers of an ancient science that is said to have destroyed human civilization in the past. Players assume the role of a boy named Robin, who - with the help of his friends - must attempt to save the world.

The field map sports a top-down view like orthodox RPGs. The battle view is a behind-the-back perspective that is slightly askew. The view changes depending on who is attacking. The battle is turn-based, and players use weapons and magic spells, which are referred to as "energy." Unfortunately, the graphics are on par with SNES standards at this stage of development.

Golden Sun will appeal to the RPG audience of the SNES generation, but those who have played Final Fantasy VIII might feel a bit awkward about it. The game is expected to release sometime next year.
