Hands-on: Godzilla: Domination

Godzilla tears it up on the Game Boy Advance.

We checked out Infogrames' Godzilla: Domination on the Game Boy Advance at the company's recent press event. The game is a portable brawler that calls to mind the TurboGrafx-16 Godzilla fighter. You'll find six monsters to choose from--including Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, and MechaGodzilla--as well as arenas set in such far-flung locales as Mars and the moon. The game will feature several modes of play, including story, versus, and an option to set up a custom battle.

The game's handling is pretty basic. You'll use the A and B buttons for attacks and the triggers for blocking and jumping. Holding down A or B will charge up a meter that will let you perform a special move to dole out some heavy punishment. Destroying objects in the environment will yield power-ups and health items. The game's multiplayer option will support up to four players with just one cart and link cables.

Graphically, the game is pretty sharp, featuring large, detailed sprites. You'll have no problem telling the various creatures apart from one another. The animation is well done, featuring little touches unique to each creature. For example, Mothra cocoons when she blocks.

So far, the game is looking like a solid little brawler for the Game Boy Advance. The Godzilla: Domination is set to ship this fall.
