Gunslinger Hands-On
Activision's most promising PS2 title is an ambitious game that puts you in the boots of an avenging old west gunslinger who must make critical decisions that will greatly affect his future.
Before the Activision representative would hand you the controller to Gunslinger he'd make sure you understood the game had only been in development for about two months. Still, for two months the game has plenty of potential to live up to its ambitious nature.
In the demo you rode your horse into town, then were free to talk to people and decide what actions you were going to take. Riding the horse was cool - you used the left analog stick to control how fast you moved and the right control stick to navigate. The horse seamlessly moved from a walk to a trot to a gallop, and animated in a very realistic way.
Once you got into town you could hop off the animal, and start talking to people. Once you get into town a woman who asks you if you are willing to help the mayor defend the village from bandits immediately confronts you. You can accept the proposition, decline it, or ask for more information. Her responses depend on what, exactly, you say back to her.
From there you could go talk to the mayor, go to the saloon, or get back on your horse and ride off. While the scenario wasn't all that impressive, the conversational system and the ability to simply do whatever you want was.
Gunslinger looks to be on the right tracks, and I'd really like to see this game again after more time has been spent refining it.
