Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits touring in June

Full-band compilation of pre-World Tour songs from Dragonforce, Poison, and more hitting Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and Wii this summer.

Activision is presumably operating under the assumption that gamers don't actually listen in on its postearnings conference calls, considering the number of "unofficial" game reveals that they contain. Most recently, Activision Publishing CEO and president Mike Griffith slipped word about Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, which he said would compile full-band versions of songs released through previous installments in the franchise.

Today, Activision officially took the lid off of Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, revealing that the game will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii in June. Beenox Studios--acquired by Activision in 2005--has been tasked with development duties on the game, which will encompass 48 master tracks reworked to accommodate vocals and drums in addition to guitar rifts. Songs will be pulled from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Tracks thus far announced for the game include Alice in Chains' "Them Bones," Queen's "Killer Queen," Poison's "Nothin' But a Good Time," Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name," Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock," Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Love Rock N Roll," Heart's "Barracuda," and Dragonforce's "Through the Fire and Flames."

As was first seen in Guitar Hero World Tour, Greatest Hits will also include the Music Studio song-creation and sharing mode. The rhythm game will also include offline and online play modes for both single- and multiplayer rocking. Eight new venues will be packed into the game, including concert halls set in the Amazon, polar ice caps, and the Grand Canyon. Greatest Hits will also take a cue from Guitar Hero: Metallica by adding in the Expert+ difficulty mode, as well as World Tour's Beginner challenge level.

Pricing information has not yet been revealed.

Its going to be $59.95, It is in our release book as that. Though I think it is cool that they will be doing this for those who have the PS3, and don't have the ability to play Guitar Hero 1 and 2. Plus it will help sum up all the good songs into one happy little Blu-Ray disc. I am looking very forward to it.

Is there a chance that they might choose some DLC from 2 & 3 to be included in these 48 tracks?

Argh the thing that annoys me with this ‘Greatest Hits,’ is that the most important people don’t get to choose what exactly were the greatest hits from those games… us!

Awesome, I hope they take less songs from 3 though since it's on next gen consoles and most people will have played it or have the chance too but some people won't have played 1,2 and 80's

This sounds interesting, although I don't know if I could justify it having a price tag of $60 (which I assume it would be) for just an updated version of old songs, especially when its only 48 of them...

There's several dozen GH repeats on Rock Band already. I don't have any reason to buy this.

KBABZ: The original few games were made by both Activision and Harmonix together, so I don't see your argument there. And I think that with 1 and Rocks the 80s being PS2-only, this is more to appeal to the next-gen console owners.

they should just re-release gh1 for ps3 and 360 but with full-band play and online.

This should be an expansion pack to World Tour or something like that. We all know they aren't going to add on revolutionary game concepts. Guitar Hero: Metallica is at least adding a new difficulty, a new career, a kick-butt track list and will allow you to have double foot pedals.

there have been 42 songs in the 4 games listed that have been released for Rock Band (5 of which were covers). the difference is I get to pick which songs from the old GH games I want to play on my platform, instead of having to buy all the good with all the mediocre.

This sounds like it could be fun, something to draw me in to the band versions of Guitar Hero instead of the guitar ones which up until this point I've found far superior.

This will be quite awesome, as much a sucker I am for expansions, I'll be getting this one. Good thing they're all master tracks this time around, I didn't care much for the cover of Killer Queen.

Stop saying that this needs to be DLC. Realize that some people don't have their system online. Personally, I'd rather have a hard copy of my games in case my hard drive crashes.

Anyone that has played the series up to this point already should be mostly sick of all of these. Here's a reality check though, if this was RB, all of these would have transferred to the most recent edition of RB for $5... it's amazing how GH can get away with having people pay another full priced game for stuff they already have.

-eddy-

GH shouldn't be a band game! We have RB for that.

Hmm. Could be worthwhile, this certainly (to me) sounds like a better track list than GH:WT. But will this be able to play GH:WT downloadable tracks? I think I'll end up sticking with RB2.

When they start making this stuff downloadable content then i'll think about spending a few points, but they aren't getting another $50/$60 from me for the same game just different tunes....

Really wish we can import these songs to GH:WT, but then again this is Activision not HMX, so expect them to make some stupid decisions.

Amazingsambo

why doesnt it mention that it doesnt work with GH:WT dlc and you cant copy the songs from the disc to GH:WT like rock band has done?
