GTA 5 video shows what a Commodore 64 version would have looked like

Fan-made video provides an 8-bit take on the game's first trailer.

A fan-made video "demonstrating" a Commodore 64 version of Grand Theft Auto V has been released, reimagining the game's first trailer in the style of an 8-bit game.

The video comes courtesy of YouTube channel MajamiHiroz, where Hungarian animator Balazs Kalocsai frequently releases videos showing us old-school reimaginings of modern games and answering questions such as what it would be like if Tony Montana played Bubble Bobble.

In true 8-bit style, it resorts to using subtitles in place of Michael's voiceover and even has a low-resolution version of one of the game's loading screens. It also contains many of the memorable scenes from the trailer, including Michael and company jumping out of a van to rob a store and a crop duster flying over a field.

Grand Theft Auto V was released last September on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, helping to push the franchise over 185 million units sold. Fans have been petitioning for a PC release, and it's long been suspected that an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version will eventually happen--perhaps in the next year, as Rockstar plans to launch a next-gen game by next March. In the meantime, we continue to await word regarding the story DLC for GTA V, which could potentially have something to do with a recently filed trademark on the name "City Stories."

Hey, the C64 had floppy drives by that point, cassette tapes were more of a staple of the Vic-20 than the C64. Also I think the graphics were slightly better on the C64 than these ones make it look like, again, I think more likely a Vic-20 version than a C64. ;-)

Yet ANOTHER remake of a trailer for a game nobody cares about anymore.

While this is very old "news," you gotta give props to the great work of the animator. I like his Watch Dogs version better though =)

Completely unrealistic!

There was no jiggling of the cassette tape connector, no kicking the cat when it crashed halfway through loading for the 80th time and no going nuclear after typing 50 lines of code for the pokes and peeks then finding out they didn't work.

Ah the good old days...

Thats one well made trailer. Though is there was any open world games like that in the time? I guess not. Though everyone says that RockStar first one who made open world game. But if I remember right on NES (I think) was some kind of open world game, where you could actually take a car. Cant remember very well, saw it on some kind of really old video where it was talked, that RS didnt made first open world game. Would be nice to learn the games name, I would like to see how it really looked, remember only some details and I thing green color. Lots of green.

More dev BS! Of course the trailer looks amazing, but I bet the RETAIL version will only be like...7-bits or something.

its good they are making GTA5 for current gen console but still i think they should make GTA6 for current gen console.

Music maybe but graphically hell no. Commodore had better graphics than that. Just look at "Law of the West" or "Karateka" and you can see that.

Interesting, now someone should do this but instead of 'on commodore 64 will look like' do one with VR =P

That brought back so many fond gaming memories. Not necessarily of the Commodore 64, but of 8 bit gaming in general.

some serious waste of time. He copy exactly how the GTV game was all he did was making it look 8 bit.  No skills there.

Too funny. That's some great 8 bit graphics right there. I'm glad I'm still alive to see games past that time. The commadore 64 was a great system back then, even though I went with the Atari 800 instead. My friend had the Commadore 64, so I got to play his games and he got to play mine.

That is some serious talent right there.

Anyone see the SNES version of this? It came out last year. This one is literally a copy cat--he just removed the words, dumbed down the graphics, and added subtitles. The scenes are identical.

Nice! Very creative and nostalgic.

That looks hawt. Rockstar give this guy a job ! I would totally play this ! He made 8 bit look so beautiful without no CGI, blu ray, 1080p, 60 FPS, and 50GBS of HDD space required lol

And I would have paid for that back then... If I had one!!!

Oh well time to save for thst 1541 ....Lol

There is no way the C64 could handle that many sprites on screen at once.

It's still a good video though.

I remember loading up Hard Hat Mac for the first time on cassette. Getting that 1541 floppy drive was the #$(*~!

Not bad, but original C64 games were more imaginative than this.

This would have taken 15 hours to load on cassette. The Hobbit already took 15 minutes...

You know, watching the original trailer brings back memories of what felt like a very short time ago when people would guess what this game was going to be like by hints inside the trailer, but by now, I've already beaten the game at its release and did everything but a few side missions. Wow. Time goes fast. The game to an extent was disappointing, and though I only borrowed it from my brother (the only GTA I don't have, but the only one I beat all the way through), it didn't have a lot of replay value; when I was done, I was done.

The characters were good, but the story and end could have been a whole lot better, and the shooting gameplay was a step down from both Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption. Something else ironic is that my favorite parts were both the side missions due to characters, and times when you simply drove listening to the characters conversations, when the thing in most GTA's I want to do least of is drive during missions, but this game was basically all that.

The radio was also disappointing, and only had a select few songs I wanted to listen to, but after a certain amount of time, it gets tiresome to listen to the same few songs over and over. After a while I just turned the radio off, which I never did in previous GTA's.

@Wicked869 NO! ..We don't need to be digging up GTA5 Atari cartridges from some landfill 30 years from now because of another videogame crash from a poor game..Wasn't ET enough of a wakeup call?

@Navardo95 @NTM23 @hikaruai @Warlord_Irochi LOL wow how sad xbots are. Just for the record I own every generation Nintendo, Sega, Panasonic (even if it is one LOL), Xbox, and PlayStation that has been made (soon the retron 5 if it ever comes out). So yes I am a fan of gaming but not loyal to a brand.

So you sheepeople who think one system has a monopoly on gaming are the ones that have cause the next gen systems to be almost identical. Just keep arguing on 1080/720p and 30/60 FPS like that crap matters. You will keep paying $60 for 3 hour games with no replay value.
