Grand Theft Auto III hitting PSN Sept. 25 - Report

Listing on PlayStation Asia website indicates Rockstar's PlayStation 2 action gaming hitting PlayStation 3 next week following delay.

Grand Theft Auto III will arrive on the PlayStation Network September 25, according to a product listing on the PlayStation Asia website. A Rockstar Games representative was not immediately available for comment.

GTAIII may finally be released on PSN next week.

Rockstar Games' 2002 PlayStation 2 action game was supposed to arrive on PSN July 31, but was delayed indefinitely due to an "unforeseen complication."

When GTAIII does launch on PSN, it will be a $10 download. The rerelease will not be updated with high-definition visuals or receive Trophy support.

If you want HD graphics just buy the game on Steam. You can even use a 10x draw distance mod to make the game looks more awesome.

Trophies and HD graphics would be nice but I honestly don't give a crap. I just want to play the game. I wish that they would bring SA and VC to PSN also. Wouldn't mind repurchasing those.

I hope they make your PS3 backwards compedable soon or re-releace most of the other games Rockstar made, like; Bully, Midnight Club... etc

That's called exploitation of no backwards compatibility.  The sun will not shine for gamers as long as current trends continue to be.

GTA VC and SA with HD and with trophies. Wish I could say I have love for GTA 3 but I don't.

Why no HD remake? I would have done it all over again otherwise, awesome game that it was and still is!

even though all pc's made within the last few years can run it with better resolution settings....? even the iPhone/pad versions are HD....

thoroughly confused by the no HD decision.

If only I hadn't bought it for Steam's R* pack.

Don't mean to be a party pooper here, but I cannot get stoked for a ten year old game that I have already played a couple of times. Same goes for most all of the other old games that get re-released over and over. At least we have the choice to not play it.

Love GTA, sure, but no thanks.

Wierdly as much as I enjoyed the game, I never seem to go back and play old GTA games, tempted to give it a shot through PCSX2 now though.

I have a BC PS3 and the disc versions look horrible on an HDTV.  If they really did nothing about the visuals... well, if they don't care why should anyone else.

Why? Isn't the old game backward compatible and for $10?!

for lazy people that don't want to get up and put a disc into the ps3/2 ...for the price of two ps2 classics you can get a nice ps2 slim and still play a few of their games online with official servers

If it is just a straight port it is going to look pretty bad. I love GTA III. I probably put more of my life into that game than any other by far but i also know how many glitches are in the game and especially times when the roads would disappear with serious pop in issues.

Then if you fly most buildings do not have a roof or if they do most are not solid. Also if while flying you pass over an insane jump you have to crash in order to get out of the fixed cam.

I guess this is good for those that dont have a PS2 or a launch PS3 but i dont know if it is worth it as is.

I'm really surprised that there hasn't been an HD collection announced for III, Vice City and San Andreas yet.   >_>;

Vice City has and will always be my favorite GTA. The music/radio alone puts it at number one. SA was a better game, but there was just something twisted and sleezy that Vice City had that I really enjoyed.

Hey Rockstar if you by-any-chance having a look at this, please, a HD collection for the whole series will never get you any flames, from us... even for 40$

A shame Rockstar never ponied up for a GTA HD collection, but this will be nice for fans longing to play this cIassic once again (or for the first time).

I would if it had trophies. If not it's a pass. Good point though.

 @Kurushio this is just a ps2 game...it will be in the ps2 classics section like any other non hd remake

CrimsonCorp

 @DragonRift

 ...That would be the greatest of all HD-collections. The sheer amount of content alone would eclipse almost every game out there 10 fold. Hell, I'd pay $60 bucks for that easy.

 @Mr_Big_Boss Yeah, my eyebrow raised at that too.  I don't know how the hell they missed that.

 @Master_Turismo you're kidding me right? do you know how many re-releases this game had on different platform's? there's just no excuse for you to have not played an HD version of this by now. I mean it's on smartphones and i-phone for god sakes. not to mention the pc version you can easily get for free with an abundance of different HD packs that easily exceeds any "official" HD release quality.

The Renderware engine that the PS2-era GTA games were based on was bought out by EA along with the rest of Criterion, and support was discontinued, which is why Rockstar were forced to adapt the RAGE engine for GTA4, one of the reasons it took so long to appear. Any 'HD' remasters of those games would have to be complete remakes on the RAGE engine, which, while doable, would take quite some time and distract them from GTA5.

JDWolfie

 @Peyj Oh yeah, that is true. Forgot about that. I don't own a PS3 so I wouldn't know.
