Infogrames has announced that it's currently working on a new Godzilla game for the GameCube. Currently called Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, the game is a four-player fighting game based on the classic Toho representation of Godzilla, and it will feature 14 characters from the Godzilla universe such as Mecha-Godzilla, King Ghidora, Mothera, and a few other versions of the Toho Godzilla monster. Each character will have access to combinations of punches and kicks and various projectile attacks. Power-ups and health bonuses will be dropped into individual arenas by UFOs and hidden inside of buildings, but the military will start to attack the player who destroys more of the surrounding area. Other players can use this to their advantage by deliberately throwing their opponents into nearby buildings.

There are 10 arenas in the game, including San Francisco, Seattle, Tokyo, and Monster Island. Each location will have plenty of small details, ranging from cars and trucks scurrying along the road to functioning traffic lights. If players happen to smash buildings or any other objects in these locations, they can use pieces of the rubble as a weapon against their opponents.

In addition to a single-player mode, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee will have a standard versus mode, a destruction mode where players race to destroy as much of the city as they can within a given time, and survival and practice modes.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is scheduled for release on the GameCube this fall.
