Get Battlefield 2142 for 99 cents right now

Amazon currently offering a hefty discount on EA's 2006 first-person shooter; you can also get Assassin's Creed III for $5 today.

Mega-retailer Amazon is currently offering a nice discount on Electronic Arts' 2006 military shooter Battlefield 2142, letting you buy the game for 99 cents. It's not clear how long the deal will last.

It's the Deluxe Edition of the game and the deal is good for the digital version only. Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition--which normally sells for $15--includes the main game and its Northern Strike DLC pack.

You'll need an Origin account to play Battlefield 2142 and the system requirements are listed below. EA is showing Battlefield 2142 some love in Battlefield 4, as the publisher recently released a new Carrier Assault mode for the game, which is an homage to Battlefield 2142's fan-favorite Titan mode.

Amazon currently has some other nice deals for digital PC games, including Assassin's Creed III for $5, Assassin's Creed: Revelations for $5, and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for $5.

Battlefield 2142 System Requirements:

  • Supported OS: Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4/AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz or equivalent
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Hard Disk: 2.2 GB
  • Video Card: 128MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above. (AGP and PCIe only)
  • Additional Requirements: DirectX 9.0c February 2006 edition (included)
    Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible

Northern Strike is FREE now.  So... that kinda affects the skew this article is trying to spin.

This is fantastic news for a game that will be effectively terminated on May 31st when GameSpy shuts down.

On a serious note, this is probably my favorite game of all time.

This game is 8 years old and is still better than titanFAIL. EA has really gone downhill.

So will multiplayer work when Gamespy goes down? I loved this game (favorite in the BF series) and would buy it in a heartbeat but if the online is going down I don't see a point. Anyone know if online will continue?

Damn I would have tried this had it been available in the UK.

Soooo many good memories of this game. Played all the Battlefields (except 4) and had the most fun with this one by far. It seriously needs a sequel!

I hope one day we will see a sequel to this, this is my favorite Battlefield by far. Its Titan mode encouraged more teamwork than any other Battlefield and provided a highly enjoyable experience. Probably the only downside is when you got into servers where it was a complete grenade spam and nobody could push forward, though that was actually kind of fun too.

I wonder if they are doing this because the gamespy servers are going down and you wont be able to play this game online anymore come May 31st.

Anyone knows if the origin version supports mods? Been meaning to try the Battlefront mod for it.

@TERMINATOR-SSD  Well it has been mentioned serveral times to use a proxy, really isn't that difficult as browsers have all of this built in.

@leikeylosh i paid 60 for the game and season pass. I thought it couldn't be that bad :(

@Centurion95  Doesn't this just allow you to type in server information manually?

I know that losing a central browser list will definitely hurt the numbers, but it should live on amongst the dedicated base at least.

@Centurion95  You wouldn't spend $1 to play it for a month and a half? That's being just a little cheap I think :)

@pohman  You can download dedicated server and put it online on VPN, yes.

@Death_Masta187 Probably. I wouldn't be surprised if Battlefield 2 were next for a deep discount since that's also going to be affected by the gamespy shutdown. I suppose it'll still be possible to play online via direct IP connections, but I doubt that without a server browser most servers will get enough traffic to justify continued operation.

@Death_Masta187 Probably that and a cheap way to add origin users who may use it for later puchases.

Get a fake US billing address from Borderlinx, works on Amazon.

@Smosh150 @TERMINATOR-SSD  You don't even need a proxy.  Myself (Canada) and many others have been buying from Amazon digital for ages, even with a non-US credit card.  Just put in a fake US address, I think Delaware will avoid taxes.  I don't know if it actually matters as I never tested, but maybe put in as much real address info as possible, then just pick a US state and zip.

@ps3gamer1234 @Heinpienaar123  Not sure, just need to download it still. It seems like the gamespy thing might not be a problem as they may switch it to a different service. *Holding thumbs for that*

Smosh150
Smosh150

@ps3gamer1234 @Centurion95  Battlefield 2 is affected? What does this mean for mods like Project Reality as IK that is still highly popular? Used to play that a lot, but less considering ARMA fits me more.

Smosh150
Smosh150

@hoyholyhoy @pohman  To play this on Tuungle or Hamachi since the gamespy servers are being shutdown, Hamachi being limited to only 5 users w/o purchasing it and Tuungle allowing many people to continue playing a game as if the servers never went down through its client.

hystavito
hystavito

@Flying_Carcass @Death_Masta187  The playerbase will of course drop dramatically, but the dedicated fans will still play on and advertise their servers through forums and such.

Sad really, Gamespy was an integral part of my online gaming. Guess EA would never put BF2142 on it's Origin servers either.

What's sadder is no more C&C Generals online, only LAN.
