The former Sega Genesis exclusive is receiving a few modern bells and whistles.

Gargoyles Remastered is releasing on October 19, publisher Disney Games has announced, and with a stylish fresh coat of paint.

The original Gargoyles was a 2D, side-scrolling action platformer released exclusively on the Sega Genesis in 1995 (a planned Super Nintendo version was canceled). Gargoyles Remastered, which was announced last year without any additional details, looks to bring that original experience to modern hardware, but with some cool new features added by developer Empty Clip Studios.

Now Playing: Gargoyles Remastered – Announcement Trailer

As shown off in a stylish new trailer narrated by Goliath voice actor Keith David, Gargoyles Remastered allows players to instantly switch between the game's original 16-bit graphics (which still hold up surprisingly well) and the remaster's new graphics that skew closer to the look of the 1994 animated series on which the game is based. The remaster also sports an instant rewind feature, which should prove useful for those tricky platforming segments, as well as a remastered soundtrack and trophy/achievement support.

Gargoyles the animated series ran for three seasons, the first and last of which each ran for 13 episodes, with a giant 52-episode season in between. The show was canceled in 1997, but still endures as a cult-favorite franchise fans hope will one day receive a reboot in some form.

Gargoyles Remastered is just the latest classic Disney game based on an animated property to receive the remastered treatment. Previous games pulled from Disney's vault that have been rereleased in recent years include multiple different versions of Aladdin, as well as The Lion King and The Jungle Book (and which can all be purchased together as the Disney Classic Games Collection). Gargoyles Remastered will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, as well as PC via platforms like Steam and GOG.
