GameSpot spotted on XBL

Free video now available on Xbox 360 Marketplace; features chat about Xbox Live Arcade with Xbox Live GM Greg Canessa.

by

Microsoft sent a few lucky members of its online gaming service to a swanky bar in San Francisco last Tuesday for the Xbox Live Gold Experience Event, a night of mingling, cocktails, and gaming news. The big announcement of the evening was Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays, a new promotion that will regularly dispense Arcade content during the middle of each week.

Today, Microsoft is giving the rest of the Xbox Live community a chance to go to the event...virtually. Now available for download from Xbox Live Marketplace is GameSpot presents the Xbox Live Gold Experience Trailer.

The GameSpot-produced video features a chat with Xbox Live general manager Greg Canessa, who gives viewers the ins and outs of Xbox Live Wednesdays, and shows game footage from upcoming Xbox Live Arcade titles. To download the free 215MB video, fire up an Xbox 360 and search under the Game Videos and Trailers tab. Cocktails not included.

Awesome! Not only will we get Sega Channel features on the 360, where I can download all my old games. Now Gamespot is on board too. YAY! Who needs gas money, or money in general for that matter, when I have a 360?

Game footage from upcoming arcade titles... I'm in. I love the irony of a 200mb + file to watch footage of 80's games that were only kilobytes in size. I mean wouldn't it be fun if you could travel back in time and tell the guy making Galaga that one day people would be watching the game on a 200mb file... that would be a lot of fun. Come to think of it they would be impressed that you could actually watch video on a PC whatever the filesize. Hell, PC's were useless at video decoding in 1996, things have really moved along quickly in that area. You could play Quake or Duke Nukem 3D but you had to watch video in a window that would be slightly larger than a postage stamp on a 1024x768 display or higher. Maybe you could get a hardware card that would do it better back then, I dunno I never had a PC then, but these days you can decode DVD on CPU power alone.

Actually third best. IGN and 1UP both got voted better at the Video Game Awards.

This is a great idea. Wouldn't it be cool if you could download video features on your 360 from GS? Maybe some reviews, or just some of the neat features they do. Pretty sweet idea, go for it GS.

So what that PS2 out sold the XBOX 360. That's like saying Honda Civic out sold Porche 911 Turbo. It's comparing apples and oranges. Wait until 2008 or 2009 when there are PS3s waiting to be bought in every store and then you can fairly compare apples to apples.

Another article said the PS2 outsold the 360 in june. With this kind of stuff (XBLA) happening, it's dumbfounding why anybody would still consider picking up an ancient, out of date system. The ~$300 price difference probably has something to do with that.

Xbox Live is a great tool,, but YOU GUYS need to realize CASUAL GAMERS DOn't DIG ONLINE GAMES or First Person Games.

I guess from now on we'll see VERY lenient reviews for Xbox 360 games?

It would be funny if we see On The Spot for only 360 games on XBL Marketplace or maybe that is too much.

IGN may have been first on XBL, but now it has been graced with the best. first =/= best

Probably those PS2 still being bought are to replace PS2's that are still breaking down and need replacing.
