Game of Thrones delayed to May 15

Action role-playing game based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy series pushed from early 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC .

Gamers eager to get their hands on Game of Thrones for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC are going to have to wait longer than expected. Publisher Atlus has announced that the role-playing game adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy franchise has been delayed to May 15.

Gamers now have extra time to catch up on the books and TV show before playing the game.

Game of Thrones features numerous familiar locations from the books, as well as likenesses of some of the actors from the popular HBO television series. When the game was announced last November, it was expected to arrive in "early 2012."

On the gameplay front, the title will feature an "active slowdown tactical combat engine" that slows time and lets players make strategic battle decisions. Character interactions and player decisions are also said to have a big impact on the game's world.

The title is currently in development at Cyanide Studios, the same developer that created the tepidly received A Game of Thrones: Genesis strategy game for the PC.

Cyanide studios did a terriable job on genesis, they also didnt listen to the games or beta testers for genesis and i think they were working on both of these at the sametime. to me this is just a quick money grab..may not have started out like that but it is what it is,imo

My God. I thought this headline was referring to the season 2 premier date. Phew.

Being a fan of the show, and an avid video gamer, that trailer does nothing to make me excited for this game. A bit dull.

There won't be spiders in the game right? Because my friend told me that there were no spiders in the TV series, I haven't watched it though... I am a bit of an arachnophobic so... yea

Hmm I'll have to wait and see and hope to see more from this game before launch

I might check this game out because it will have a price tag of $40-$50 at launch and that will be a good pick up if I could get my hands on it with Max Payne 3 and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier coming out in May, so we'll see.

The show did a good job of recreating the book. Hopefully the game does the same.

;____; Jan 31 was my last day of HBO; I'm not going to be able to watch the new season. And for this game, never even HEARD of it, but I'm wary of games based on tv/movies, so I probably won't buy at release.

@XanderZane The show is excellent. I would advise reading the books first if you haven't, then watching the show. I really hope they do a good job on this game and don't turn it into another garbage show/movie to game adaptation.

Never even heard of the game. Already getting ready to play Kingdoms of Alumar anyway, so this will definitely have to wait. The show has a 9.4 rating on IMDB, so it must be very good. I'd love to see the show, but I no longer have HBO. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/

@supertom221 That fits my definition of awful to a T. :P Maybe animation-wise they have the upper-leg, but environment-wise? No way. At least not from what I've seen. To each their own. I'm not hateful of the game, I'm just going off Cyanide's track record. Genesis wasn't a good game. If the game does succeed I'll be more than willing to admit I'm wrong. It doesn't seem like I will be, though. I'm not disqualifying it. I'm simply going to wait on a review. Especially since I have a multitude of other games on my to-do list.

Freaked me out, thought you guys meant the show.

@airshocker Genesis wasn't awful-- it just wasn't that good or memorable compared to other similiar strategy games on the market. And like I said, the graphics aren't top notch, but just a quick glance a it allows me to easily determine it looks better than Skyrim. Also, I never said they aren't cashing in, I just try to look on it in a more positive view. Time & experience has thought me that staying optimistic will often result in a good result. Being exicted or hateful towards a game will almost always end up in dissapointing you. Staying optimistic can avoid setting your expectations too high and dissapoint you, and also won't make you come out as an idiot in case the game does succeed. You should try it. Again, i'm not implying anything, i'm just saying that disqualifying this game before you even played it or heard reviews is pretty arrogant, if not ignorant, and keeping an open mind can't hurt.

@supertom221 Really? I think it looks awful graphics-wise. Just because they aren't placing this in the time-period of the books doesn't mean they aren't trying to cash in on the hype of the HBO series. I don't know, Cyanide did an AWFUL job on the strategy game. We'll see if they can redeem themselves.

...so they got close to the release date, did some closed play-testing groups, and figured out that it's simply not fun to play, is what I'm guessing.

Damn i thought it was the actual show.

@airshocker While one might view this as a cash-in by HBO and ATLUS, I rather see it in a different light. First of all, it looks fantastic graphics wise. Sure, it's nothing ground breaking, but it's better than alot of Medieval RPGs currently out there on that matter. Second, Notice how the trailers rarely speak of the events of GoT and presetn you with characters in the world of Westeros that had nothing to do with the series. Also, notice how the village is designed differently from the vision of the series on the land of Westeros. Then again, it is ATLUS making it, so it's hard to say, really. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'll still play it, though.

God I have such a bad feeling about this game. I think they're trying to cash in on the hype of the HBO show and are just rushing it. Will definitely wait on reviews.
