Interplay confirmed during its earnings call today that it plans to release Galleon for the Nintendo GameCube. The game is being developed by Interplay's internal development studio Confounding Factor, which includes the core developers responsible for the original Tomb Raider. Much like Tomb Raider, the game is played from a third-person perspective, and the control scheme is similar to that of the Tomb Raider games. However, that's where the similarity ends. Galleon will incorporate an eclectic cast of characters, an entirely new graphics engine, and enhanced character development.

The company further announced that Hunter, its first game to be released using the White Wolf license, is being developed for the Microsoft Xbox. Its PlayStation 2 lineup for 2001--six titles in all--will include such games as Run Like Hell and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Looking foward, Brian Fargo, chairman and chief executive officer at Interplay, said that the company's 2002 lineup will include sequels to existing games such as RLH and Dark Alliance.

Additionally, Fargo briefly addressed the status of the Matrix games in development for multiple next-generation consoles. "We have already begun development on the Matrix licensed games," Fargo said. "The integration between the film and the game will be a total collaboration between the developers and the creators of the movie alike. The first game will be released on multiple next-generation platforms day and date with the release of the film in holiday 2002."

Interplay currently plans to release Galleon for the fall 2001 North American launch of the Nintendo GameCube. Hunter will be released for the launch of the Xbox and PS2 games such as RLH and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance will be released in Q3 of this year.
