First Assassin's Creed Rogue Gameplay Emerges -- What Do You Think?

Two gameplay videos show off naval battles, land combat, and more.

The first trailer for Assassin's Creed Rogue was a CG-laden piece of video, but now Ubisoft has published a pair of gameplay demos for the game, showing us what it actually looks like and how it plays. The trailers show off naval battles in the frozen North Atlantic and hand-to-hand combat on land.

Set during the Seven Years' War, Assassin's Creed Rogue flips the franchise's formula on its head and lets you play as a Templar named Shay Patrick Cormack. The game does not have any multiplayer whatsoever, which we recently found out as part of massive info blowout for the title.

Assassin's Creed Rogue launches November 11 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while Assassin's Creed Unity comes to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 28. We published new previews for both games today:

Ugh....This is unbearable. Shay looks like an interesting protagonist, but everything else is copy-paste Black Flag. The Caribbean was a more interesting setting too. What a shame, I'll have to pass on it. Maybe if the eventual re-master comes out and it gets a good player rating, I'll consider getting it.

Also, in the video, he could have just shot the Assassin Leader while he was running. Maybe he didn't do that in order to show that its a tough task to kill the Assassin Leader, but in actual, if its the same gameplay as Black Flag, double press Y (on Xbox) to insta-kill the Assassin Leader. I also don't like that the Templars are doing the Assassin-y stuff and Assassins are using private gang armies like the Templars do in every game.

This ought to be an expansion, same story, same gameplame, same Kenway characters, same US continents, same UK colonists, same tribal sleeping darts, same ship navigation gameplay, i wouldnt mind the same game engine, but they should at least offer a slightly different set up...

Looks like ac4... BUT GOOD

Ac4 was a big disappointment for me but this seems to fix most of my problems

Too bad it is not for PC so ubisoft can't take my money

I really enjoyed AC4, but I put so much time into upgrading, exploring in and fighting with my ship I'm just not to sure if I can make the commitment to doing it all over again...Aaaand it's pretty much the exact same mechanics as AC4...I guess I'd suggest this to anyone who hasn't played AC4

I'm looking to either Black Flag or Unity for my next AC fix, this one doesn't interest me particularly.  I stopped playing AC3 halfway through, and recently went back to it, but finding it quite tedious.

C'mon people.  If you owned a successful IP you'd milk it too!  :)

So it's a reskin of Black Flag so people without a new-gen console can still have a new AC game to play this year. Suppose it's better than trying to do a watered down version of Unity on the old consoles but still, this is just milking it. Surely they could have released this as a Black Flag story DLC?

Used to love the AC series but with so many games and with the story starting to lose pace I don't see myself buying either of the AC games this year. Even the big reveal that you'll play as a Templar in this game doesn't make an impact anymore, seeing as they're basically exactly the same as the Assassins (in terms of fighting style, weapons etc)

@Decapod_10 Yeah, I was watching this and was thinking this looks identical the gameplay of previous games. They had to use the excuse that the main character was an ex-assassin to justify his assassin skills which I find to be on the weak side. How about they use a templar who was never on the assassin's side at one point in time? I am also getting tired of the relative same time period they've been using since AC3. It's getting old.

Decapod_10
Decapod_10

@XIntoTheBlue @Decapod_10 I agree, but yeah, if he didn't have anything to do with the assassins they would have to create a whole new fighting system for him, otherwise him fighting like an assassin wouldn't make sense. Too much effort for a quickly-made game on an outgoing console gen.

And yeah, the time period is getting boring too. And even the naval stuff. It was interesting in AC 3, awesome in Black Flag, but now it's just more of the same. Would be cool if they just dropped the whole assassin angle and just had a game where you're an actual pirate doing pirate stuff. At least Unity looks like it's going back to the 'assassin in a busy city' roots

This is actually pretty interesting.

Pre-order placed. (Give the Ol'360 something to do)

Yeah there really isn't much new here.  The only thing that doesn't look like a DLC pack is the price.

Oh and there's a grenade launcher and some crazy regenerating health now.

So it is Assassin's Creed IV but where you are a templar instead?

@idosofacility IV confirmed he becomes a Templar through the "portraits" you can find throughout Abstergo.

I'm not really interested in Unity, but I may pick this one up to get my latest filling of the AC franchise.

Eh... should've been a DLC. It's basically Black Flag's systems on a new map with new weapons and gadgets.

Ubisoft really does not get the whole "show us, don't tell us" thing... got tired of captain obvious narrating everything.

The game looks like Black flag ,then why cant they add naval multiplayer in this which was missed in Black flag?

With this game and Unity, the "Do Not Disturb, Animus in Session" sign on my door, will be up for some time

I wish they would do something different with the health system and the AI. I'd find these games so much more enjoyable if I wasn't nearly invincible with deadbeat NPC's waddling around trying to figure out which way to point their popguns.

AC4 was a major revision and beautiful update to the series. Must we really milk it now, though?

@ezioismyname It would have been cool if they could've had the co-op like Unity does.

Player 2 could play as Haytham!

I am still looking forward to this game. A lot of people liked Black Flag and so for them to take that formula and copy and paste it across is not too bad (although I absolutly get why people will be annoyed).

Still, I much prefer that Ubi do this than simply downgrade Unity to the 360/PS3, so that for current-gen users you get a new story and improved gameplay, whilst last-gen users (like myself) will get a new story and some slightly mixed-up old gameplay.

@Gazz_mann with someone at the helm who looks like Connor. this looks like a cheap money making move by UbiSoft

Seems to me that the assasins in this new game are cowards.

The ships are cool as always but can't they see the regular formula is getting tiring? Ive always had this problem with AC, you get a ton of items and tools and stuff and now you got exploding barrels and poisons and you had bomb since revelations and blah blah blah - in the end nothing stops you from going head first into 20 guards and just killing them making all the stuff they add around just gimmicks. without changing the core combat and the way the world works I feel like I'm kinda done with AC.

The guys at AC Unity keep talking about how they are gonna change the core AC experience, hope they do... The ships they added in AC3 and AC4 were awesome, my favourite parts of them, and thats exactly the thing, they need to change it up cuz the regular stuff is getting so boring...

Also I was disappointed when I learned AC Unity isn't gonna be in japan with samurai, that could have done the trick I think, would have been so awesome

zinten

@ironvictarion I think you are mixing ac rogue with unity, there are no ships in unity.

Wow!!! It looks just like the last two Assassin's creed games. I really need to give my money a third time for the same product so Ubi can continue to sell us the same product even more than once per year. Because I just like to be an assassin and it is the coolest stuff in the world and the industry standard doesn't really matter at all.

FLEEBS

Well, I have to say I wasn't too interested in this before watching the gameplay video, but it has now slightly piqued my interest. Having said that, I don't see myself buying it.

This is more like Black Flag part 2.

I'm glad Unity was anounced or i would've skipped AC this year.

tom_cat_01
tom_cat_01

Hmmm... it looks EXACTLY the same as AC4. The HuD, the sounds, the movement... exactly the same.

Which is weird, 'cos usually they tweak/improve/change things between the games. Even the Ezio games all had different HUDS and animations etc. But this looks... exactly the same as Blag Flag.

Hmmm...

Also: I hope they don't abandon the modern day stuff. That's the REASON why all this history is being re-lived in the first place, after all. I wanna know what Juno's gonna do now she's loose in the present day.
