Female-led Ocean's 11 Reboot Gets Release Date and Final Cast

The final cast and release date for the upcoming female-led reboot of Ocean's Eleven have been announced. Ocean's Eight will hit theaters on June 8, 2018, with a cast that includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.

As reported by Deadline, the movie will star Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, and Sarah Paulson. It is directed by The Hunger Games' Gary Ross, and produced by Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original Oceans trilogy.

According to The Tracking Board, Bullock will play the sister of Danny Ocean, the character portrayed by George Clooney in Soderbergh's films.

Earlier this week, Kaling appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She revealed that production on the movie would begin shortly and it would be set partly in New York. Kaling also mentioned that the film would contain a "fashion element."

"If you took all my favorite things and shook it up in a blender, this would be the Mindy Kaling movie," she said.

In an interview with Slashfilm in June, Ross explained that he would very much follow the tone set by the hugely successful original trilogy. "I think it's a pretty similar tone," he said. "You know, Steven and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren't. I don't think he would've wanted anyone to do it if we weren't. This is very much an extension and a continuation."

Ocean's Eleven earned $450 million worldwide in 2001. While the two sequels weren't quite as successful, they all proved to be considerable box office hits, helping the franchise reach more than $1.1 billion at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
