F1 2011 revving up Sept. 20

Codemasters' sequel hitting the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall; UK release set for September 23; 3DS and NGP versions announced, not dated.

Just last week, Codemasters' racing game F1 2010 took home the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' top award for a sports game, beating out juggernauts FIFA 11 and Gran Turismo 5. Now, the developer--on the heels of the strong debut of the original--has announced and dated the next game in the series.

F1 2011 zips and zooms this September.

F1 2011 will arrive in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on September 20. In the UK, the game will ship on September 23.

Additionally, Codemasters sent word that versions of the game for Nintendo's 3DS and Sony's Next Generation Portable (NGP) are in development and will sport features unique to the systems.

Like its predecessor, F1 2011 will include every circuit, team, and driver from the forthcoming 2011 FIA Formula One Championship, including Sebastian Vettel, current World Champion.

Additionally, F1 2011 will premiere the 2011 Formula One Grand Prix of India, raced at Delhi's Jaypee International Race Circuit, as well as the German track Nurburgring.

Will f1 2011 actually work? F1 2010 was the most frustrating game I've ever played by some distance (yes, even more that Ninja Gaiden): it would have been a masterpiece had it actually been finished. It doesn't matter, though, because everyone gave it great reviews, it won awards (how!?), and it makes loads of money. Codemasters have fallen far since Toca race driver 2 and 3. Grid was pathetic, Dirt2 and 3 are incredibly irritating, "ooh, you're rad, man, what a great driver! You rock! Lets go back to my house and talk about how great you are". Dirt 3 isn't without its charms, at least. After forking out another 50 quid over the next year you'll probably own the whole game (if you don't own it, be aware that you could finish it fairly quickly in its current state). Maybe when you buy F1 2011, you'll get, "one incredible race weekend", and then pay a tenner for each subsequent race. Unless you qualify outside the 107% rule and have to buy the ultimate F1 research and development simulator with a downloadable test track (that rocks, man!).

I've heard so many positive and negative reviews I think I'll wait a few more months for 2011. Believe it or not, I'm still playing F1 Championship Edition and I've gotten to like it pretty good. Easy is easy but medium is pretty challenging. You really have to be on your toes. I just wish the steering would've been more responsive. There's no middle ground, your either turning hard or not at all. I've got to say though the cars in 2010 don't sound as mean as F1CE's cars. I could be wrong. So to all of you that have played both games, is there a dramatic difference between the two? Are the cars easier to drive in 2010? Is the control factor allot better in the new game? I really like F1CE so I hope I'm blown away when the 2011 version comes out. To bad Codemasters can't wrestle away Motogp from Capcom. They obviously have no passion for racing. Console racing is the best!

North America on September 20. In the UK on September 23. Am I the only one who finds this rather odd? It's a well known fact that Americans have no real desire for F1 whereas the UK is the birthplace of F1 so why are we waiting longer to play... rediculous imo!

I'm still playing 2010 on the Xbox 360, on the third season of my 7 year career mode. The driving is pretty top-notch in my opinion, I hope they focus on things like expanding the replay capabilities (improved the frame rate in rain, being able to jump to a specific lap, view from different cars, could help you learn better lines), have more interaction with teammates and other drivers, more "presentation" stuff like having actual podium presentations (all skipable of course). A lot of F1 is the "soap opera" off the track, would be fun to see more of that incorporated somehow :)

this is good news to me... I am currently playing the 2010 version just now and it is really good but i do see why some folk are saying bad things about it. I think the problem is that it takes a bit too long in order to get into the race with practice being essential if you want to win through to the race... The main thing though I think is its realism, it is so detailed and accurate in so many ways! The tweeks for 2011 should be like more helpful details from the engineer as when playing, i don't find being told that "Sutil is about to pit within the next few laps." at all helpful considering i'm in third and he is down in 16th at the time?

Then why did you comment on this article Imprezawrx500 if you hate F1 cars? Common sense you idiot. I for one thought F1 2010 was awesome, they just need to offer more things to do with the new one.

and where is grid 2? f1 cars suck give me some real cars not this open wheelers junk. Even when f1 goes on sale for $20 I still don't buy since I hate f1 cars.

I would have bought the 2010 edition but it wasn't on shelves where I live during release week... after a week I had read some reviews and complaints and never got back to it. Hopefully 2011 takes everything 2010 was and then fixes the issues. If it is on the shelf I'll buy it.

i was so excited for 2010, and it was good, but it never really had that special something that made me want to come back and play it again and again, and i never really played it again after the first week or so so dont think i will be picking this one up unless there are some significant improvements to certain things

if mechanical failures and engine blow-outs are back in ill buy this in a heartbeat, thats the reason the old F1 games were great for me, F1 2010 was good but had that "its missing something" feeling,

F1 2010 was a great game, although it lacked the 'snag' factor as I'm now going to call it. I don't know what it was, but every time I turned my Playstation on I thought "Hmmmm.." Then played another game. I don't know why though, it's a decent game. Here's hoping F1 2011 will have more magnetism towards me :)

I was impressed at how hard the original was - it was nice to start in a slow team and suffer a bit and work *really* hard to practise and learn the lines to get a remotely decent qually and finish out of the Lotus or equivalent. Plenty of room for improvement though...

Great. Loved 2010 and with a few tweaks 2011 could be even better. Plus an NGP version :D:D:D
