Evolve's Latest DLC Character Splices Her DNA to Use Monster Abilities

Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock's 4v1 monster-hunting game Evolve is still getting new DLC. The latest addition to the game will be a support character named Dr. Kala Kapur, 2K Games has announced.

She is described as an "expert on monster biology." In fact, she's so good that she was able to splice monster DNA into her own to control some monster abilities and use them to her benefit.

"I am the nightmare behind your eyes. I've seen inside your world. I am not a monster. I'm no one," she says in the announcement video above.

Kala is reminiscent of Sharlto Copley's character in Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi movie District 9, only Kala intentionally meshes her DNA with the alien creatures, while Wikus Van De Merwe does it by accident.

Some of Kala's abilities (all descriptions written by 2K) include:

Siren Missiles

• An improvement on Kraken technology, these airborne missiles home in on nearby enemies. When placed on the ground, they become more powerful, slower moving homing mines.

Teleport Pads

• An improvement on Wraith technology, these pads create rifts that allow teammates to move instantaneously from one part of the map to another.

Armor Reducer

• Using Goliath's armor technology, the Armor Reducer shoots a beam which temporarily eliminates the Monster’s armor. The armor quickly regenerates once the beam connection breaks.

Kala arrives January 27 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. She's included with the $25 Hunting Season 2 expansion or can be purchased by herself. Pricing was not announced, but other human characters go for $5 each.

If you're just getting into Evolve now, 2K recently released an Evolve: Ultimate Edition that comes with the base game and expansions including Monster Expansion Pack, Hunting Season 1, and Hunting Season 2.

Evolve launched in February 2015 and has shipped more than 2.5 million copies. Parent publisher Take-Two has referred to the franchise as "permanent" just like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. The company has also teased that a sequel might not be so multiplayer-centric.
