Even more evidence for Far Cry 4 comes to light

Latest information comes from Ubisoft Shanghai studio design manager, who lists "the next Far Cry" on his LinkedIn resume.

by

More evidence for the existence of Far Cry 4 has emerged, this time thanks to the LinkedIn profile of a Ubisoft Shanghai employee, who listed "the next Far Cry" on his resume.

He has since amended his profile to remove mention of the game, but not before Joystiq was able to document what it said. Unfortunately, no other details were provided. The game's plot, setting, and platforms remain a mystery.

This latest information follows a blunt statement from Drive composer Cliff Martinez, who said in October that he was "working on a video game called Far Cry 4." And during E3 2013, Ubisoft marketing executive Tony Key assured fans that a fourth installment is on the way. "[Far Cry] is a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one," he said at the time.

I hope Farcry 4 has a T-rex, Giant Crocodile's, Megalodon shark. and other legendary animals to hunt and be hunted by. Some extra gore or gibbing with explosives, machetes, and heavy weapons would help immersion in the game.

Am I the only one who found the open world challenges in Far Cry 3 boring as hell?

It's a safe bet that anything successful will have a sequel in the works.

I think I might delete my LinkedIn profile. I don't want to be stalked by Eddie.

All the evidence you need is that Far Cry 3 did well.  They will be milking the series until it runs dry or Ubisoft keels over.  The whole "leave them wanting more" thing doesn't happen with the big players in this industry.

I loved Far Cry 3, especially the coop missions, unfortunately I bought it from Steam and uPlay blocked it after a couple of automatic updates. I still don't know for certain if the problem was uPlay or Steam, but I'm betting it was uPlay. So if Far Cry 4 requires uPlay, I'm not getting it. Support didn't even help.

uPlay and Origin need to go away. Steam alone is perfect.

I loved Far Cry 3, but I did not like the leading American boy at all. That Callum guy in the poster was far better than him.

junk journalism! report and write stories on facts. Besides only a fool would believe there won't be a Far Cry 4 after 3's success.

This is pretty cool news.  I can see how people are worried this will be just another hashed out sequel, but it CAN be done; if done properly that is.  I think the gameplay was pretty dead-on in FarCry 3, but for a sequel they need to expand some of the elements.  The melee and "takedowns" were awesome and I think they should stick with the upgrade feature as it insists progression which makes a game more fun--  they should even go further and have available "pick-up" weapons like wrenches, bats, iron pipes, etc; each with their own take downs of sorts.

The game should also have some more traverse possibilities.   If I'm assuming correctly this game would be developed for next-gen and PC therefore more memory for larger areas thus having the ability to not only use cars and boats, but also helicopters and planes/jets.  Also a lot more variations of guns as I felt FarCry 3 didn't have as many as FarCry 2.

I also think this game should go to a more modern-like setting instead of 3rd-world war-torn countries.  Things like classy buildings and office complexes--  however this could be implemented I'm not sure, I just think it would be interesting.  Just my 2 cents.

Kiss of death, "Brand recognition."  Unfortunately to modern studios this means that they can churn out shit sequels every year or two with nothing but location and minimal changes and updates to the actual game play.

Hopefully they return to an environment like Far Cry 2.  Far Cry's 2 environment is what made the game because every tactic was viable; not so in Far Cry 3.  Even with all of the weapon mods (which are pathetically shoe-horned in SP and slightly less so in MP), Far Cry 3 was pretty one-note in comparison.

Plus, it would be refreshing to play a game with no "good guys" again.

Thing is, who know knows what its even going to be? Considering the franchise's track record it could be real-time strategy game as much as an open-world FPS.

I'm playing the Far Cry Predator game I got from XBL for like $5.Its obviously dated. But so far a pretty good game.  I tried  it to sample the Far cry series. Most likely I'll buy the whole series.

Didn't they confirm it already that they are working on Far Cry 4 and it will come sooner than what everybody hopes .?

On other I'll like to see Blood Dragon 2 , if not then GTFO .

@aborgraffiti Nice.  I personally would like all of what you said, especially better climbing/platforming segments like in Mirror's Edge.

@aborgraffiti  How about no whiny 20-something rich brats? I seriously hated all those 'good' characters. The only good characters in that game were the 'baddies'. Vaas is one of the most memorable characters from the last generation.

@ShadowOfKratos Personally I got FarCry 3 on the PS3.  Will likely only get the PC version when it shows up DRM-free.

Honestly, people pushing a Steam monopoly have no idea the damage that'll do.

@NbAlIvEr10000 Maybe so, but Far Cry works in settings of 3rd-world war-torn countries because its a lot easier to make it feel a "far cry" from civilization. Putting it into  a 1st-world or even 2nd-world country would almost break the premise of the games.

@Apathetic_Prick far cry 2 is still the best in the series , fantastic realistic environments , great weapons combination ( like the best in the game is the dragunov ) ,  ( and you can skip all the checkpoints between mission buy taking the bus from the bus station for haters )!finished that game 3 times ...is so good .....far cry 3 is very easy made for kids realy and i was in big hury to finish the game because of his boring nature and characters !

@Apathetic_Prick I disagree with you. Far Cry 2 was an horrible game, it was awful in every sense. I don't think they should do anything compared to Far Cry 2. While Far Cry 3 saved the series to me, it was an amazing game.

@Warlord_Irochi Who cares what you think? He can do what he likes. In fact, due to your comment I am going to apply for a job as a game developer on a yet unannounced game and then deliberately announce it on LINKEDIN. Happy now?

DIGN

@spartanx169x Same here, the thing I hate about this game is that the enemies ALWAYS know where I am when I'm sneaking. I have it on the hardest difficulty (predator or something like that) so that might be the problem. I FC2 and the DLC as well on sale and I haven't played them yet. I wanted to beat FC:IP first.

The multiplayer is fun/funny as well, if you don't take it seriously it's a blast.

Edge15

@hystavito @aborgraffiti Well, Far Cry 2 did that if I am not mistaken. (Disclaimer: I didn't play it, but that's just what I heard.) It would at least be interesting for an alternate mode. Kinda like Fallout: New Vegas and its hardcore mode.

Edge15
Edge15

@YukoAsho @ShadowOfKratos uPlay does need to go away. Origin isn't as horrible as everyone thinks. uPlay only causes issues in my experience, its why I won't touch any Ubisoft games on PC. Install limits are stupid, but its worse when it counts updates as installs. They need better security programmers if they are going to enforce that, which they shouldn't.

@ramyland Yes, apart from the malaria, every other 'annoyance' can be solved by playing the game properly. (buses, weapon upgrades, buying new weapons once in a while, etc), but hey, its easy to moan about the game instead of learnign how to play it.

Yes, it had issues, but it was nowhere as bad as most people say. You can say that Ubisoft had balls releasing it back then, it was a total hardcore game compared to the insulting hand-holding present in FC3.

shreddyz
shreddyz

@danielmbg @Apathetic_Prick You are clearly exaggerating. As I remember it wasn't that good but not that bad either. the gfx was beautiful for the time. but i found the story and some gameplay element ie. malaria pills tedious. 6-7/10 game.

He can't de what he likes because of a thing called NDA (Check it online) and  I'm in  public website, so I will write whatever I want, little troll

@lee0577 Suuuuure, indeed you will. I'm believing all of it here xDDDD
You know, for trying so hard at trolling you are pretty bad at it; it's not fun if the other person doesn't believe you since you can't annoy/make him mad
.
In fact, it's not even fun to follow your bait; it's just too stupid. Conversation is over.

@lee0577 @Warlord_Irochi There is such thing as confidentiality when working for a corporation. If you are not in the top places of the company, you should let the higher ups do the announcing. Although, I will say, it was probably staged.

lee0577
lee0577

@Warlord_Irochi@lee0577No not mad, just pointing out the guy can do what he likes. NDA obviously didn't stop him because he posted it didn't he? Nothing you say or do can stop people disclosing unannounced games. They simply can not be stopped. Tomorrow I have a meeting with a game developer, more of an interview really and I've been told it is 90% certain I will get the job. They are working on an unannounced game. You want to know the first thing I will do once I start? I'll announce the title on LINKEDIN, Twitter and Facebook just for you. Are you pleased with yourself?
