Tesseraction Games, a development studio founded by former Dynamix employees, has announced that Enigma: Rising Tide, its upcoming online naval combat game, has hit the alpha stage of development. The developer plans to begin accepting beta test applications shortly after E3.

"It's incredibly gratifying to be sinking each other," said Kelly Asay, president of Tesseraction. "Even in its early stages, this game is addictive."

Enigma will let players take part in massive naval battles including the use of torpedoes, deck guns, and depth charges. In the final version of the game, thousands of players will be able to take part in the battles. The game is scheduled for release as a free download this summer, and after a free trial period, players will be charged a monthly subscription fee.
