The game is currently being developed for the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony PlayStation 2. Based on the ancient Roman sport of chariot racing, the game combines both racing and combat into its gameplay. In the game, players have the ability to control two characters: the driver and the warrior. Twenty individual teams from around the world will be available in the game.

"We have invested thousands of hours to make Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars a groundbreaking game that will establish a new genre in entertainment software," said Jonathan Slager, CEO of Kodiak Interactive. "We are excited to collaborate with Encore Software to bring the thrill of Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars to gamers. Encore Software is the ideal partner to achieve this game's potential because of the company's proven expertise in marketing, promotion, and mass-market distribution."

Circus Maximus: Chariot Wars will be released in early 2002 in North America and Europe.
