Elijah Wood Turned Down a Boxing Match With Daniel Radcliffe

We'll have to wait a while longer for a Frodo vs. Harry Potter bout.

Actors Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe nearly got into a boxing ring to duke it out, but the Lord of the Rings actor thought that it might not be such a good idea to go head-to-head with the Harry Potter star.

This came up on Conan last night, when Wood was discussing how he and Radcliffe to this day get mistaken for one another, thanks in part to this wildly popular GIF. Wood says he attends the Fantastic Fest film festival every year, one part of which is a debate where two people go back and forth on topics inside of a boxing ring--and then they actually fight. "So, a proper debate, and then it's fisticuffs," Wood said. But a Frodo vs. Harry Potter fight was not meant to be.

"For the longest time, they wanted to get Daniel Radcliffe and I to do it--and it almost became a thing this year. I ultimately squashed it, because I was like, 'I don't want to fight this guy.' I don't want the culmination of the fact that we look alike or somehow get mistaken for each other to end up being in a boxing ring," Wood said. "So it didn't end up happening. Much to the disappointment of a lot of people."

Conan's co-host Andy Richter thinks Wood, as Frodo, would win in a fight, considering swords are real and magic is not.

What does one of these fights actually look like? Watch the video below of recently retired video game movie director Uwe Boll participating in a Fantastic Debate fight against movie theater owner and Fantastic Film festival founder Tim League.
