EA's Origin service suffering 'unexpected downtime'

EA says it is working on restoring the service as soon as possible.

EA's digital distribution platform Origin is currently "experiencing an unexpected downtime," and some users are currently unable to log in to the service.

Several Origin games are also currently unable to be played online, according to EA, although the affected titles are not mentioned.

EA says it is working on restoring normal access to the service as soon as possible.

Earlier this month, Battlefield 3 found itself victim to distributed denial of service attacks that temporarily rendered the multiplayer mode of the game unplayable.

Origin, which has more than 40 million members, is a mandatory installation for many of EA's most recent titles, including Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and Crysis 3.

F**k Origin, they should give people who bought the game DRM-Free versions.

Right here is why I bought ME3 and got a crack for it. Like and support game development though purchasing but online restrictions which cause SP games to be unplayable due to an online failure is ridiculous.

Is this fall out from that solar storm that is supposed to be hitting us right now?

So glad I've pirated every game from them. Can continue to play the games without interwebz :)

You see what's happening. Origin is so bad it promotes piracy, who would have guessed.

It's a little pointless to restore service to something that nobody uses.

Well I am so glad I have my SimCity always having to be connected to internet and using Origin to give me best gaming experience possible. Thanks EA for the crap I receive.

With Origin, a downtime is actually expected.

Must be all those gamers rushing to buy Crytek's 'Masterpiece'.

it was absolute &*^%$## annoying in Mass Effect 3 to demand being online to play single player and you MUST play online-multiplayer to complete the game

Origin should have an offline mode like Steam. Steam's DRM seems like an acceptable compromise - validate the game once, go offline and never worry about steam servers.

Also, games that need always online are stupid and ridiculous and I won't support that model ever after getting bitten by Diablo 3. Will not buy Diablo 4 or SimCity 5 or whatever other online only game EVER.

That's alright. I log in about once every two weeks anyway.

Seems like they keep having issues with Origin. Hmmm maybe you guys should've stopped being douchers and just let steam to handle your games like before. It seemed to work better than before...

One reason why I absolutely hate these required distribution platforms.

Considering EA's track record, none of this is exactly "unexpected."

Should let it stay down, total crap.

i was almost tempted to get Crysis 3 too...but now that i know it requires origin, i wouldn't spend 10 cents on it

Well, as long as Origin is down due to some general technical difficulties on EA's part, and not because my account was hacked by some stupid mother f*&%$# - I'm good.

I DO NOT want to go through that again.

@Stebsis well, think positive, if it's a nice day outside, the best experience they can give you is to not have working servers so you will be forced to seek fun outside (let's not think about TV and other games and / or uses of PC or consoles)

@PCsama When i installed the Origin beta for the ME3 demo... the 'download demo' button didn't work... I found a forum thread by an Origin dev giving a 12 step fix involving registry edits.... I'm fine working on the registry, but not fine with a multi-billion dollar company that can't get a 'download demo' button to work, even in beta...... They lost  me that day, I won't be using Origin ever again.

@Shango4 Buy game, install crack, problem solved. Benefit of a fun game without the crap of Origin.
