No Caption ProvidedThe last NASCAR PC sim I really got into was Papyrus' wonderful NASCAR Racing 4, a game that really captured both the sheer muscle and stubborn nature of NASCAR rides. With NR4, you always felt just barely in control of your car, especially if your setup was lacking. The game was also one of the first to take advantage of then-burgeoning online networking capabilities of PCs to provide multiplayer support for 40 or more players online.

Since EA purchased the NASCAR license, many have wondered if the days of NASCAR sim-racing titles were behind us; as the company has seemed content to publish a slew of console titles. EA's NASCAR SimRacing looks to change that, bringing a simulation feel to the game and dropping the pit lane melodrama found in recent console titles. While the straight-laced approach of SimRacing won't appeal to everyone, there's a dedicated group of racing fans out there that have been clamoring for this very thing since the last days of Papyrus.

Will the game deliver the goods to this finicky and passionate minority? We'll find out when the game is released in mid-February. Until then, check out our recently posted updated hands-on look at the game.
