EA: Titanfall will remain exclusive to Xbox, PC

[UPDATE] CFO Blake Jorgensen says Respawn's new game will be exclusive "for the life of the title" for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC; Respawn cofounder says "of course" company will make a game for PS4.

by

Zampella was also asked if Respawn Entertainment will make a PlayStation 4 game some day. He replied, "Of course we will, just not the first Titanfall."

The original story is below.

PlayStation and Nintendo fans hoping to play Respawn Entertainment's first-person shooter Titanfall on their consoles appear to be out of luck. The game will remain exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC "for the life of the title," Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen said today during an earnings call.

Titanfall is the first product from Respawn Entertainment, the studio founded by numerous former Call of Duty developers, including Infinity Ward cofounder Vince Zampella. "For the life of the title" suggests that a potential Titanfall sequel could be released on a non-Microsoft or PC platform, though this has not been announced.

Microsoft featured Titanfall prominently in its recently launched Xbox One advertising campaign, rolling out on TV, the Web, and on billboards this month in the lead-up to the Xbox One launch on November 22.

Titanfall will be published by EA through the EA Partners program. The game will be released on March 11, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.

I'll just wait for "Titanfall: The Playstation Version" title to come out a bit later.... it has a different title, right?

Lol at Sony fans.

"Well I didn't want this game anyway!"

Well, seeing as how most people buying a PS4 had a 360 and are abandoning Microsoft due to their douchebaggery ... I'd say that it's not exclusive. If I thought it looked like a good game, I could get it for my 360 or PC.

Always been more of a PS fan and play my PS3 more than my xbox.  Just sold my xbox, cause I don't really play it, wanted some money for games for my PS4 and heard from the guy at Gamestop, that Titanfall may be coming to PS4 down the road.  My question is do you think Titanfall is worth buying the xbone?   I would rather stick to one console this time, but this game looks so bad a**.  I kept my 360 for Mass Effect and Gears and then ME came to PS, so I never played it.  I hate to miss out on this, but of course hate thinking of dropping another almost $600 just to be able to play Titanfall.  My PC is old and the video card is crap, so playing on my PC isn't an option.  Just asking for friendly advice, Thanks in advance!

This is a bummer for people who only plan on owning Sony machines.  That being said, I think most of the people who are trying to dismiss the game or shrug this news off are fooling themselves.

Waaaay too many other games in the pipeline for me to be jizzing over this any time soon - honestly, I've OD'd on multiplayer gaming over the last couple of years and this isn't doing it for me right now.

the fact that it's on PC is cool though so no big deal it not arriving on my PS4 - who cares?

This is just CoD with Big Mech's and extreme jumping.   Bored of that now, what else do you have?

A game with no single player campaign? no thanks.

Considering it's a multiplayer only title, I won't miss it. Perhaps if they put out a sequel that has a single player mode I may take an interest. Multiplayer vs. shooters just really aren't my thing. (Probably has something to do with the fact that I'm not very good at them and spend most of my time dead.)

Fairly skeptical about Titanfall. Looks very gimmicky and the hype around it makes very suspicious about its quality.

Printul_Noptii

this is probably no problem since PS4 gamers could still get a decent PC and play it on there. With MGS4, Uncharted, Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls however no one is gonna play it unleast they have a PS3 :[

If people are enjoying it after launch, I may grab this on PC.

It is on pc, so this is not that bad to ps fans. Everyone has a pc, and we can still play the game.

Another sub par EA title not coming to PS4?   I'm sure we'll manage.

I guess it's a shame that it won't come to the PS4. Not a big surprise on it not showing up on the Wii U, though. (Although it's also for the Xbox 360, so why not).

Don't really care for this game, so whatever.

Wouldn't it be funny, if this game was really, really short. Everyone buying an X1, just for this one *half hour* game LOL

The fact that Titanfall is coming to PC on the same day, says a lot about EA confidence in the Xbox one.

Wow, I actually don't care. Seriously, who didn't expect to see this coming? Either way, I didn't want this game to begin with. Doesn't interest me.

@MooncalfReviews So you insult Microsoft and in the same sentence say you can get it on your 360...you're a hypocritical moron.

@Irish-J I have to think that if you choose one console or the other, there will be some games that you'll be glad you could play, and there will be other games that you wish you could play.

@Irish-J

Sure.

Titanfall + Halo + Forza is a compelling argument.

The PS4's compelling argument is merely Second Son.

@frozengrudge I absolutely agree. I like SOME MP but not an entire game based on it. Devs and Publishers sure are mucking up gaming these days with MP elements. Whether it's putting MP in a game it has no business being in (Tomb Raider, God Of War :Ascension), executing an otherwise good idea very poorly (BATMAN : Arkham Origins, Dead Space 2) or making a game entirely MP, the whole MP thing is getting way out of hand and frankly it's just not all that fun outside of games like COD, Battlefield, Crysis and the like....

@psycho_returnz I love how they used words "M$ Exclusive" . M$ never considered PC as their own platform but always tried to destroy it and now they say it is M$ Exclusive because they can't say it's Xbox Exclusive . I still feel that  game was designed to be multiplatform and M$ paid money to not release the game on PS4 for sometime , I don't trust EA . EA don't do exclusives .

s3as3a
s3as3a

@psycho_returnz It's exclusive to Microsoft platforms: Windows (which is what is often meant by "PC"), Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

@toshineonYet you clicked xbox to get here, clicked the game, and then clicked this article and decided to read it.

@haze0986 A $60 game with single player mode or not, , it's more about whether if you enjoy the game enough for it to worth your money.  even some single player games doesn't even worth $60.

JediMasterJ42
JediMasterJ42

@Faye_Tallity Well the game is online-only, it doesn't have a single player campaign if that is what you are referring too?

tjkraz

@Garm31 Naah.  It just says that Microsoft wasn't willing to pay even more to have the game left off PCs.

Last time I checked, Microsoft still makes Windows...and Office...and Internet Explorer...and...  There's a clear benefit to Microsoft in supporting PC gaming. And like another poster said, PCs aren't direct competitors in the console market the way Sony and Nintendo are.

@s3as3a @psycho_returnz M$ don't get money when you buy the game on PC . So PC Gaming is not M$ platform , Windows is just leading OS , used to run applications .

@Altazen @haze0986 multiplayer stand alone games never worth $60 , that being said I agree that no matter how much you pay if its fun , worth it . but to me it just not worth 60 bucks

Altazen

@JediMasterJ42 @Faye_Tallity well he did mention "if the game was really short" so no doubt hes referring to single player campaign which of course it doesn't have.

adrianjarca
adrianjarca

@tjkraz @Garm31 There's no benefit for Microsoft from supporting PC gaming. (unless they plan to introduce games in Microsoft Office) because the PC is an open platform. Microsoft gains nothing if a game comes out on PC or not.

s3as3a
s3as3a

@Cloud_imperium Having games be made only for the Windows OS takes "mindshare" of users and developers ensuring that Microsoft has a differentiator compared to other platforms (i.e. it is *the* platform that has (all) the games) which helps make sure it keeps its monopolistic-competition stronghold of the PC market.

Thankfully, Valve's SteamOS should help change that and help PC gaming thrive. To be clear, Valve is not planning on ending support for Windows or Mac but rather diversify itself to not put all its eggs in one basket.

I think games should be cross-platform for everyone to enjoy, but I could understand why businesses want to have exclusivity. Personally, if a game is not available on my platform of choice (=PC), then I just don't buy the game.

@adrianjarca @tjkraz @Garm31 Console and phones are proprietary hardware (higher profits), PC M$ provides you the end user and publisher with DirectX, Live about the sames as saying they make no money from you using their browser.

tjkraz
tjkraz

@adrianjarca @tjkraz @Garm31 Microsoft sells the PC operating system.  And, depending upon the exact terms of this deal, they may be profiting from sales of the game itself.

The real question is whether MS views PCs as a threat to console sales.  If they pay to block Titanfall from PC release, will it result in a dramatic increase in console sales?  Apparently they don't believe it will.
