In the wake of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice's suspension from the NFL, EA Sports has confirmed that it will remove the embattled pro football player from Madden NFL 15 this week.

"With Ray Rice's indefinite suspension from the NFL, he will be removed from Madden NFL 15," an EA Sports representative told GameSpot. "This roster change will take place by this Friday."

Rice was released by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely yesterday after TMZ posted a video of Rice punching his then-fiancee and current wife, Janay Rice, in an elevator of a New Jersey casino. She was so incapacitated by the attack that Rice had to drag her body out of the elevator. Janay Rice has since defended her husband and lashed out at the media.

Rice is not the first controversial player removed from a Madden game. Last year, EA Sports cut former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez from Madden NFL 25 after he was charged with murder.
