Yager, developer of Spec Ops: The Line, has announced its new project, Dreadnought, for the PC. Focused on the wars waged between massive space battleships, Dreadnought aims to put you in the midst of large-scale battles while making you manage all of the systems of such spacecraft.

In Dreadnought, you act as a mercenary, operating outside the domain of any political body and giving loyalty to no one. Your goal is to achieve glory by fighting against other mercenaries in "a galaxy of chaos," Yager explains.

Much of the gameplay of Dreadnought involves actually managing your ship and making sure its complex systems are working properly, the developer says: "Commanders will assume complete control, dedicating power to specific sub-systems, customizing weapons, engines, armor, abilities, crew and their ships' aesthetics."

Yager and Grey Box, Dreadnought's publisher, are developing a game about space battles because of their love for the subject matter. Additionally, the developer's experience creating dogfighting sim Yager gave the team a desire to make another, more ambitious project.

“We all have that dream of sitting in the Captain's Chair,” Tony Medrano of Grey Box says in the press release. “It's an awesome feeling to control something so huge and powerful, and that feeling is present in Dreadnought. Our goal is to nurture that feeling at all costs by working with players to fulfill the creation of their dream armada."

Yager is using Unreal Engine 4 to create Dreadnought. Although no release date has been announced, "public testing" will start sometime in early 2015.

GameSpot thought Yager's last game, Spec Ops: The Line, was flawed but with a gripping and interesting story.
