E3 2014: Miyamoto Tries Oculus Rift -- What's Your Dream Nintendo VR Game?

Legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto tries out the virtual reality headset today at E3.

by

Shigeru Miyamoto--creator of acclaimed franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong--tried out the Oculus Rift headset today at E3. The image above comes from Twitter user Callum Underwood, who snapped a photo of Miyamoto getting a demo at the Oculus VR booth.

It's unclear what demo Miyamoto was trying out, but we can see that he's holding an Xbox 360 controller and looking to his right. With so little to go on, we have to ask: if you could play one Nintendo game in virtual reality, what would it be and why?

Think about it and let us know in the comments!

My hope for VR was that there wouldn't be a "VR game" distinction, and it would just be available on every game. It doesn't have to be first-person, and it sure doesn't have to make use of motion controls. But the more I hear from developers working with VR, the more I hear them say their games do have to do those things. If that's how it's going to be, then forget VR--I'm not interested anymore.

Just make the games as usual, then have them all support VR. That's all we need.

Metroid Prime or something new. The issue for me is that I feel most Nintendo games work best in their current perspectives. And one of the most significant issues with VR is it almost exclusively relies on the first person perspective to have any relevance. Otherwise, you're just as well off with a 3D screen as bulky goggles.

So, if Nintendo decided to make a virtual reality game, I'd rather they pick something they already had a good fit with, or make something new tailored specifically to the strengths of the technology.

We already have Virtual Boy, thank you very much.

Everyone is thinking the same thing, but I guess no one else is going to say it.  We want virtual VR sex games!  That's the ultimate goal of VR anyway.

Since it's Nintendo, maybe let us have sex with Zelda after we rescue her, or maybe even the Metroid lady (after she takes off her powersuit...or maybe she leaves it on...hmm, the VR world is starting to get exciting!)

I don't want to be sexist though, there can also be a bangin' George Clooney game for women, he'd probably make tons of money off the licensing deal.

Metroid Prime would be the obvious answer. It lends itself so well to the use of such a headset.

This is a tough one. I'd have to choose between Zelda and Metroid, but I think I'd have to go with Zelda. This would be especially awesome in the new open world they are creating for the Wii U Zelda. That would be so cool!

@Litchie I really don't care for Metroid Prime, however I would defiantly agree on a Metroid Prime VR; especially with IR targeting...

@NX75 This. I see a future (next 5 years) where VR becomes the new 3D. Where it becomes a gimmick rather than a revolution. With Facebook on board, I see their marketing guys getting involved too much and this very thing happening. They won't want it to be a peripheral like it should be, they'll want it to be the main attraction.

Sure, Oculus has more money now, but where is most of that money going to go? Marketing and "exclusivity" deals.
