Universal Interactive has announced that The Fellowship of the Ring is in development for the PlayStation 2. An action adventure game, The Fellowship of the Ring will follow three of the characters from the J.R.R. Tolkien novel of the same name including Gandalf, Frodo, and Aragorn. All three playable characters have different abilities, and in addition to battling enemies, players will be able to set traps, pick locks, and use magic. The game will include 28 types of enemies, as well as a number of boss characters. The ring will also factor into the game, as players can use it perform certain actions.

Fellowship of the Ring for the PlayStation 2 is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2002. Look for our hands-on report of the game from the E3 show floor later in the week.
