Driver Pulls In
GT and Reflections dropped by the videogames.com offices with a 50 percent-completed version of their new driving game.
GT Interactive and Reflections dropped by the videogames.com offices today with a 50 percent-complete version of Driver. Only one of the game's four cities is playable at this point, but the car physics are in, and the cars all move in a very realistic fashion.
Also newly revealed is the game's storyline, which now revolves around an undercover cop named Tanner, who is posing as a wheelman-for-hire in hopes of infiltrating the mob. As Tanner, you'll get hired for 44 different missions ranging from picking up bank robbers to driving through various restaurant storefronts. While there are pedestrians in the game, they will always scoot out of the way of your car.
Around 30 square miles each of San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York are contained in the game. The cities are represented very well, as the game's developers spent three days in each city, driving around in cabs and filming everything they saw. A director's mode lets you edit your replays and alter camera angles to make the ultimate car-chase scene.
The PlayStation version will hit shelves on July 8, with the PC version following on September 15.
