Driver 2 Goes Gold

Infogrames' racing game is ready to ship.

Infogrames has announced that Driver 2 for the PlayStation has gone gold. The game has moved into the manufacturing phase and will be released on November 14. Retail orders for the game have exceeded 1.2 million, and Infogrames expects the game to match and surpass the success of the original.

"Consumer and retail anticipation for Driver 2 have been amazing, and we continue to increase demand via a strategically timed multimillion dollar marketing campaign that incorporates both traditional and guerrilla tactics," said Martin Currie, director of marketing for Infogrames. "As a result, our launch date is supported not only by a cinematic 60-second commercial spot and print advertising, but street-level posters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, and a publicity effort in which a wrecked Driver 2 car touting the launch date will be towed around key areas in major metropolitan areas."

The game is being developed by Reflections Interactive.
