Disney registers Star Wars Attack Squadrons domains

Developer Electronic Arts also picks up related domain names, suggesting title for new game has been revealed.

Disney's LucasFilm division recently registered a slew of new domain names related to a mystery project called Star Wars Attack Squadrons. Some of the names include StarWarsAttackSquadrons.com, AttackSquadrons.com, and StarWarsSquads.org.

It's not clear right now if Attack Squadrons is the name of a new film, game, both, or something else entirely. But as Fusible points out, Electronic Arts currently owns the domain names AttackSquadron.com and AttackSquadron.net, suggesting the company is involved in the project.

In early May, Disney and EA signed a multiyear agreement that gave the Battlefield publisher the exclusive rights to games for the Star Wars franchise. The first title out of the partnership, a next-generation Battlefront game, was revealed during E3 2013 last month.

That game is in development in Sweden at DICE. Dead Space developer Visceral Games is also working on an all-new Star Wars game, though no details on this project have been announced.

I'm a little worried that Battlefront will be ruined by bad business models.

it could just be a stats or server browser page (like the battlelog) where you can select servers, change loadout, weapon and player stats, squad and clan reports, etc. for the new battlefront game

X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-wing Alliance, or just a killer space sim game based on either the rebels or empire will keep me happy. Will it happen? Probably not.

I love Disney! But I just hope their teaming up with EA isn't true.

Gold Leader: Well the situation is worse than I thought. Instead of cooperating with the Chinese, Disney joined with EA...

Yoda: Attack! Squadrons! You could probably reverse it and it would still make sense for Yoda speak.

Have to wait and see, but sounds to me like someone is afraid of missing the Star Citizen/Elite Dangerous train.

A new X-Wing/Tie Fighter game would be amazing, but I'd settle for at least a Rogue Squadron type game.  Heck, even a movie or show focusing on a pilot squadron would be awesome.

A slew of "c+" Star Wars games, movies, Etc is all that will come of Disney and ea having rights to Star Wars.

Oh gosh its true EA and Disney is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Lucas made Lea a metal bikini :).

Disney and EA, all we need is Zynga to complete this Axis of Evil.

That aside, a new Tie Fighter/X-Wing would be sweet - which is why it won't happen :(

Time to squat on Star Wars Super Attack Squadrons which will, of course, be the sequel title.

Star Wars RPG (like KotOR, but not necessarily) or FPS/TPS like Jedi Knight or I'm not interested. Sounds like a X-Wing type game by the name, which has many fans, but not me. It could also be something like Republic Commando, which I might like. Only played the demo of Republic Commando and liked it somewhat, but it wasn't interesting enough for me to purchase it. Hopes Visceral Games does a visceral game I would like.

Disney owning lucasarts is the best thing that has happened to them.

Lets see... DICE for battlefront remake. Whatever company is doing Attack Squadrons for Rogue Squadron remake. Soon Visceral for Republic Commando remake. It all makes sense now!

Let this be a reminder to anyone still moaning about the lucasarts takeover and dissolve: Disney has copius amounts of money to throw at this franchise. If we're lucky we'll see the late 90's lucasarts era refreshed.

@Devils-DIVISION Well it is very true. They officially signed an agreement and it is confirmed that EA owned devs are working on both the new games.

Zloth2

@Kayweg Jeez, I wish, but there's little chance of that.  They are going to be aiming squarely at the massivest of mass markets.  Games that take more than 5 minutes to learn aren't going to happen.

@vadagar1 all I know is anything released Star Wars related other than lego is going to be a purchase for me love the franchise.

@IanNottinghamX you are high if anything this will resurrect Star Wars but there is a chance as with any franchise that failure could happen

@G4m3r0uTL4wZ Yeah!  You and Jar Jar lead a pack of rogue Ewoks through the forest to deliver a special cake for the Life Day celebration!!

OK, it won't be THAT bad.  The programmers would sooner fall on their swords... err... well... some really sharp pencils than write something like that.

@genom85 I want Star Wars: Rebellion 2 but I think I'm alone there.

Smosh150
Smosh150

@CROAT_56 @IanNottinghamX Indeed, SW was pretty much dead since Ep 3 imo, we got a few cheap games like SW ROTS, the Lego games, TFU, etc plus we got an animated TV show, but really it was dead essentailly. Even if EA and Disney are running the show now, it is better than what we have gotten in the last few years, so either way it changes nothing or we benefit from it, choose which one you like best.

@Willaguy12 I also thought of THX 1138, when I read RC-Sev's suggestion.

Willaguy12
Willaguy12

1138 is a reference to Lucas' first film, THX 1138. You can find it in a lot of Star Wars franchises and movies.

@Bumblebee1138 I can agree on that.
BTW, 1138 is a simple number or connected to Boss from SW:RC?

Pretty much? That's the best Star Wars gaming news of this decade yet.
