Destiny will soon introduce a Refer-a-Friend program, a system that's also seen in Blizzard's World of Warcraft, among other games, developer Bungie has announced. The program will arrive "just in time for the holidays," the developer explained, adding that the November update will contain traces of it.

"After [the November] update is deployed, some of the more tech savvy among you will be able to dig up some details for a new initiative we have planned to arrive just in time for the holiday season," Bungie said. "We're planning something new to recognize and reward the Sherpas among you. We are calling it Refer-a-Friend.

"Maybe you have a friend who will be getting Destiny as a gift this season," it added. "Perhaps their gift-giver will even be picking it up for them at a holiday sale coming to a store near you. If you intend to show them the way to the mountaintop, we'll have new rewards aimed at recognizing your service to the Kinderguardian."

Bungie did not share any further details about Destiny's Refer-a-Friend program and what its rewards might be, though those details are coming "very soon." In World of Warcraft, the system is called Recruit-a-Friend, and players can earn things like game time and mounts when they bring another player into the game.

In other Destiny news, Bungie has announced the game's November update is coming soon, while a new update to the game's companion app gives gear manager access to everyone. On top of that, the Xbox One's new update is causing some Destiny connectivity issues.

By Activision's latest count, Destiny had 25 million registered players, which is up 5 million in three months. On average, Destiny players spend about 3 hours per day in the game, according to Activision.
