Destiny Expansion Details Leak Again, Will Have New Social Space

What are the Plaguelands?

It's been a rough few weeks for developer Bungie regarding leaks. Some details of Destiny's next expansion leaked recently, and today Bungie's website accidentally confirmed its name, Rise of Iron, and its release date ahead of the reveal livestream tomorrow. And now even more details have leaked through the Xbox.com game page for Rise of Iron, giving us a better idea of what it'll include. The page has been removed, but you can see a cache of it here.

The game page lists all of the new features of Rise of Iron which looks to be a pretty significant expansion. Alongside a new raid, which had already leaked, Rise of Iron will add new weapons, armor, gear, and missions to the game.

However, most notably, Rise of Iron will include a new social space (joining existing social spaces The Tower and The Reef) and an area called "The Plaguelands Zone." Nothing is yet known about the Plaguelands, but if I had to hazard a guess, it sounds like a new game type. In addition, it will add more Crucible player vs. player maps and a new Enemy faction.

The game listing also hints at the story of Rise of Iron, which will focus on the Fallen enemy type. "The wall which stood for centuries along the southern border of Old Russia has collapsed," the listing states. "Fallen mutants now scavenge the tombs of the Golden Age, and the plague they have unearthed in the wastes is more dangerous than even they understand. Join Lord Saladin. Journey into the Plaguelands. Learn the fate of the Iron Lords and stop the growing threat before it is too late."

According to the listing and Bungie's earlier leak, the expansion will launch on September 20, 2016. You'll need the base game and the first three expansions (House of Wolves, Dark Below, and The Taken King) to play Rise of Iron. The consoles it's coming to haven't been confirmed yet, but the leak this morning suggests Bungie is not bringing it to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, only to Xbox One and PS4.
