Deal Alert: Free Game On Steam

They came from outer space.

Comments

Listen up, deal hunters: between now and June 8, you can download Fortified on Steam for free. It's not a free-play weekend or anything--the game is your to keep and play forever as long as you download it while it's free.

What is Fortified? It's a strategy-game-meets-shooter that's set in a stylized version of the 1950s. Martians are invading the Earth, and it's up to you to defend the helpless citizens from the extra-terrestrial threat. You do that both by setting up defense towers and by running around and shooting Martians directly with an array of weapons.

Now Playing: Fortified - Launch Trailer

The whole thing has a purposely cheesy and cartoonish vibe to it, with aliens piloting flying saucers and robotic enemies straight out of pulp movies and TV shows from the '50s.

In GameSpot's Fortified review, our critic said, "Fortified feels like a really good start, not a fully realized game. A lot of the pieces are there to make an enjoyable, exciting shooter with solid amounts of action and strategizing--especially when it comes to the lead characters, Martian invaders, and the zippy, frenzied co-op play--but the one-note level design and tactical limitations don’t provide enough reasons to keep coming back for very long."

In other words, it's a game you might regret paying money for, but a fine game to get for free. Download it now, because it goes back up to regular price June 8 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET.
