Dead Island Riptide emerging in 2013

Next entry in franchise arriving next year with new weather system and engine upgrades; character statistics importable from original game.

Dead Island Riptide will seek to pull gamers into its current in 2013, Joystiq reports. The game was announced earlier this summer with no release date attached to it.

The island-themed zombie horror continues in 2013.

Dead Island Riptide is a follow-up to last year's zombie shooter and boasts new weather effects like flooding, as well as general upgrades to its game engine. The game takes place on another island of the archipelago depicted in the original game.

In addition, Dead Island Riptide players will be able to import save information from the original Dead Island. The game is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

The original Dead Island was developed by Techland and released in September 2011 to generally positive review scores. The game shipped 3 million copies and welcomed various add-on packs. Speculation about a follow-up sparked in November, when Techland filed a trademark application for Dead World.

Dead island was made Specially for melee weapons guns are just an extra. There are not many guns in the game and bullets are very scares. I understand that its normal for an american to have a gun under there pillow but most country's that's just crazy. So when a zombie apocolypse breaks out on a island i don't expect the whole island to be a gun paradise. Its not normal that everyone has a gun and the developers of dead island therefore focus on melee weapons and stated that guns are just an extra. Only when you arrive at the jungle guns get important but then again your are fighting mostly humans.

I understand there should be guns in this game so everyone is happy but melee has always been the main weapon and i hope it will stay like that.

Personally, I loved the first Dead Island. It contained lots of brilliant gameplay elements. I really enjoyed to explore that island, to find occasional survivers and help them. I when I finally got armed - that was the time real fun started.

I just wish they will make more guns, especially pistols (magnum is my favorite) and solve the problem with ammo scarcity or at least allow zombies to carry it.

Import characters from the game? Man Logan is back (and I better not loose any of my weapons).

Zombie killing news is always good news!!

First game was good (history not that much) so if they can improve over what they did right and correct some of what was wrong we may see a great game.

I know .....easier said than done.

The story in the first game was so bad though...it was at the very least good for a laugh at times :D

Meh, I never cared for the first one. The fetch quests got old real fast. Sure borderlands had them, but they were infinitely more rewarding.

They already rolled out the pre-order metal cases for the game. I might get it. But Borderlands 2 is comin up & so is Resident Evil 6 so then again i might not.

One word can pretty much sum up my feelings on this...

Why?

Every thing I have seen of “Riptide” looks like it was a DLC that they are trying to pawn off as a full game.

i hope vehicles are better implemented this time around. i lost count of how many times i abandoned a stuck car or lost it by walking too far away from it (everybody remember where we parked).

The first one was okay, online is pretty dead which made the game boring really fast if only they add split screen co-op it would be more enjoyable.

I wish there were as many FPS zombie games as there are military shooters. Ok... maybe not, but I'll take another e-vacation with the Dead Island series whenever I can.

I wish Dead Island: Riptide's story would be related to the Dead Island GC 2011 trailer

HELL YES!!!

I played soooo many hours of Dead Island, exploring the vastness of the island / cities.   I hope the keep up with the easter eggs and hidden stuff in game.

I would like to see a Drop-In / Out  multiplayer though.  Focus on single player and if they have time include a better multiplayer.    What they have in Dead Island is good but it wasn`t great.

Multiplayer style in which joining a random game won`t mess up my single game. Maybe have seperate saves for both?

YOU FANS have any ideas for a multiplayer system that works???

I thought Dead Island was OK. Problem was the game started to get stale once you entered the city I thought. From what I can tell, Riptide is using the same characters from the first which I also think is a huge mistake, none of them were exceedingly interesting or likeable.

I'll keep my eye on Riptide. If it looks like it's superior to the first game, I'll give it a go.

I hope they give it a day-night cycle this time and expand on the survival and role-playing aspects.

The first game was good. bu none of it's characters was memorable and the cutscenes were terrible although terrible cutscenes is quite routine for games built by chrome engine.

Hope the improvements mentioned above includes these things as well.

I liked the first game too. It had a few things that bug me, but the game was fun and showed soooooooo much promise for growth. Very eager to get the sequel. Will probably per-order this next game.

Liked the first one, I dunno why some people didn't, the game felt like Borderlands with melee weapons and great level design. Not saying the game was perfect, but I think it was fairly good for not being a triple A game and having a small budget. Can't wait a for a sequel.

I hope you're not forced to pick a girl or a guy this time around.  I would really like to be any type of character with any gender/race.  :(

I thought Dead Island wasn't really that good at all, and I like zombie games. When I saw the videos for it I just couldn't wait to play it, and I pre-ordered it. After waiting for it to come out I just couldn't wait to play it, and at first I thought it was really good. The first couple of areas were great like the Hotel Resort and the Town/Supermarket are the only two good areas and then the game went downhill from there and it sucked. Oh well I atleast I still have the Dead Rising games to play, which are really great games that are alot of fun to play.

So even with that said I just can't wait to play Dead Island Riptide.

Dead Island was one of those games... critics were ambivalent, but most of the people who played it loved it. I personally had a blast with it - bring on the sequel.

@Ortego13 Fuck guns there are enough games with guns.

This game is about chopping head's and arms off with the most brutal melee weapons out there. I hope that you can chop of legs to so that you have crawlers. But please dont make this a shooter then it would be just a zombie shooter and we have enough of that.

@darkfiercelink what you play it on? cause xbox was bustling with people. but i enjoyed it single player and with buddies as well.

@redness19 It did get kind of stale...except for that mob that would let out the creepiest "Help me" I have ever heard.  Then topped it off with an extremely creepy and insane laugh that had me jumping every time I heard it.

@darkcomedianThere will be about 1.75-2 years gap between the two games. That's not really that soon.

Ortego13

@pauldevette I do not see any problem about that. It is up to you personaly to deside and choose your gameplay style. Moreover developers even separated charachter classes. You want to be close and personal - go on then, take your melee weapon and chop-chop. But I prefer ranged weapons, so if they (I hope) include more ranged and melee weapons, they will satisfy all gamers.

As long as i can slash of zombie head's in riptide allies we will be!

Ortego13
Ortego13

@pauldevette Okey...well, in order to clarify things - I am from russia and according to our legislation it is illigal to carry firearms or store it unless you are law enforcement representative. About the game, it is kinda hard for me to say that humans are the only enemies who can be most effectively be killed with guns, the infected (which in my opinion, are the most annoying and dengerous enemies in the game) are tough in close range, firstly, the reap you apart and they are deadly in numbers, the best way to deal with them is to use guns imo. Moreover, I understand that that the game is more melee focused, but some players are also having their fun by using ranged weapons - that is why all 4 heroes have different skill trees - you just pick the one you like.

And finally,my friend, as I understand you enjoy the game as much as I do, so we are more sort of allies than enemies. We both want the second game to be awsome, the only difference between us is gameplay style approach, right?
