THQ today announced the release of two new PC products in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise: the new expansion Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Winter Assault, and the Dawn of War: Game of the Year edition. Both games were developed by Relic, a THQ studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Winter Assault continues the real-time strategy of last year's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, adding an entirely new race, the Imperial Guard. The new race, also known as "the hammer of the emperor," finds its strength in fighting in numbers and defensive bonuses. Not to be outdone, the previous four races, the orcs, space marines, chaos marines, and eldars, have been given new units. Winter Assault will feature a new single-player campaign and 20 new multiplayer maps.

Also hitting stores today is Dawn of War: Game of the Year edition. This special package includes the original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War with eight additional multiplayer maps, a book of concept art, and a $5 rebate on the purchase of the Winter Assault expansion.

Both Winter Assault and Dawn of War: Game of the Year edition are rated M for Mature and retail for $29.99. Check back tomorrow for a full review of Winter Assault, or head over to GameSpot's review of the original Dawn of War.
