Today Mythic Entertainment posted an open letter to the Dark Age of Camelot community that announces the upcoming role-playing game's official release date--October 9--and discusses the server types that will be available at the game's launch and how the team will support the game after its launch.

According to Mythic, the game will launch with a role-playing server type, and other server types will be introduced beginning in November. Rather than dedicating a team of developers to maintaining the game after its launch, the entire company will continue to work on Dark Age of Camelot.

"What you see at release from Dark Age of Camelot is just the beginning of the product's evolution, not the end," the letter reads. "Suffice it to say that we have heard what the community has asked for and we will not disappoint them."

Dark Age of Camelot is set in a medieval fantasy world based on Arthurian legends. Players assume the role of a character from one of three warring realms, and they can gain levels and skills by completing quests and defeating enemies. Dark Age of Camelot will ship to stores on October 9 with a suggested retail price of $39.95. One-month subscriptions to the game will be $12.95 per month, three-month subscriptions will be $11.95 per month, and six-month subscriptions will be $10.95 per month.
