Mythic Entertainment has released the first information on the shar, a new playable race that will join the forces of Hibernia in Trials of Atlantis, the upcoming expansion for Dark Age of Camelot. Mythic has previously revealed that the expansion's other two new races are the half ogre (siding with Albion) and the frostalf (siding with Midgard).

The shar are a ruthless and bloodthirsty race that has offered to join with Hibernia to swing the tide of the realms' battles. However, the shar have their own agenda and--although the other Hibernia races may not remember--old elvish legends warn of their treacherous nature. The screenshots above show the male and female shar, which are both easily distinguishable from other races by their mottled reddish brown color and the spikes on their forearms and spines that curl back over their heads. The first two screenshots show the shar in two new underwater dungeons, with transparent domes that reveal the watery expanse above.

Dark Age of Camelot: Trials of Atlantis is scheduled to ship late this year. For more details, check out our previous coverage of the game.
